I have a 91 240... i was installing my subs and amp today and when i was trying to remove the nut to loosen the battery terminal, it got stuck right at the very end, and i ended up stripping it so its like a circle now... i tried using plyers and they just keep slipping stripping the outside even more... any ideas how to take it off? and if i were to get generic battery terminals from pepboys or something... would they work? because i was looking at the + and it looks like there is something else attaced to the terminal that cant be moved to a new terminal? Thanks...

Use a dremel tool/hacksaw/angle grinder to cut a slit into the bolt and use a flathead screwdriver, or use vise grips. If that does not work, use an angle grinder to completely sever the clamp for the terminal and pull it off, and yes you can get battery terminals from most auto parts stores. Cheers.

You can just cut the bolt off and take a bolt from a new terminal from wal-mart.

hey guys, i know this is an old thread but i didn't want to create a new thread after searching... so my question is, i'm about to install some battery terminals... that look like this...

except the 2 8ga holes are on the side... anyways... i was wondering if it's safe to just cut the stock wires that are connected via o-ring onto the bolt that's on the battery right now in order to plug the wires into the new battery terminal i have?

why not just weld the terminal to the post? Then you dont have to take the nut off. Better connection if you ask me.

because the battery terminal is lead, and the cables aren't

but what if you weld a crazy cap on the battery post? and make sure that the gaps are filled in as well. wont that work?

battery terminal, lead
battery cable, copper

no welding
