View Full Version : FC3S vs S13 DRIFTING ONLY

I still am stuck, so I'm looking at all my options, and speaking of Option, I just watched another video with equal amound of S13's and RX7's. I would like to talk to anyone who has had both or knows someone with one and the other. RX-7 Parts are harder to find, but RX7 engines are cheap as shit and perform awesome. But If I had minimal engine mods (even before an sr20 swap, or turbo upgrade for an FC3S) What would be the best car for drifting. I cant believe how hard it is to find an FC3S in the area. I keep looking and all the RX-7s are GXL's so I never get to ask anyone about how it performs. But if you had to pick one car that would look the nicest (and I'm telling you now that if I got a 240 it would be a fastback cuz i made a pact with a friend not to buy his car aka longbody) what would it be? And if you had to pick it solely on drifting performance for the bucks (immagine i maybe have about 700 dollars after I buy tha car at most to use) what woud you recomend? I'm sorry that was much more than one question but im really worked up.

either car would do well.
both have roughly same weight and nearly identical weight ratio (rite?)... 'cept the FC will cost you an arm and a leg to maintain if it blows.

This is just from what I heard but the rear end on a rx7 breaks faster than the s13 and you need some good skill to keep the car sliding. I've heard that setting up the suspension on the rx7 for drifting isn't simple either.

Surprising that no one has mentioned the mechanical knowledge needed to keep an RX7 in good condition... rotaries are NOT the easiest to work on, and if this will be your first car to go into the rigors of drifting (read that as: are you ready to break tons of shit on your car?) are you prepared for the consequences?
Drifting is NOT all fun and sliding. It costs lots and LOTS of money. beating the hell out of your suspension and the eneivitable (sp?) body damage and oh the tires! tires! tires!
I would say that each CAN be equally good for drifting... it's more about how adept you are at tuning your car, and MOST importantly, your driving skill.

I sold my FC and bought an RX7 simply because it's so much easier to drift. I've had or have cars for speed and fun, I just wanted a drift car. The FC is *not* that easy to drift, it's built to grip the road and it does it extremely well. You need the suspension setup just right and a lot of practice. A 240 you can just get some power behind it and a nice clutch and it'll slide out with ease and hang the rear out there...

i have both. and both cars are good. FC's tend to be a tempermental car. u cant abuse a rotary engine as u do a piston engine. and unless u will be doing all the work urself, rotary shops are $$$
