Which is a better route to go for a front 5 lug conversion on a s13 - the attain/gto front wheel hubs + bearings ... or .... get s14 front ball joint/ spindle and bearing + hub?

It depends on who you are. I went with OEM because I got bolt sleeves made for free and pressed in the s13 balljoint for free.

S14 Used Front Hubs and Spindles $200
S14 Moog LCA Balljoints from PDM $65
Bolt Sleeves $0
Labor for pressing in balljoints $0

My setup only cost me $265 and I came out with new LCA balljoints and the ability to use OEM bearings when mine go bad and I can use OEM studs if I snap one. I'm not sure if Attain uses OEM bearings and studs.

For my s13 5 lug conversion with z32 brakes
$570 shipped for my s14 front and z32(complete ebrake assembly) rear spindles with z32 cross drilled rotors all around.
$30 for the 5lug sleeves
$145 for rebuilt 30mm calipers and moog ball joints.
$90 or so for SS lines from SPL
$45 for 3 bottles of Motul dot 4 brake fluid
$880 total, not including the price of rear z32 calipers..cause I haven't been able to get a real deal on those yet.

I didn't think it would cost that much..but oh well.

i have half my z32/5lug conversion
i got front and rear calipers,mc,ebrake lines, rear 5 lug hubs all for 300$
i needa get ss lines for around 140 front n rear from project silvia
blank rotors for 100$
peak hubs for 350$
so a grand total of around 900$

attain hubs i got were like 50 extra cause raretrick wanted me to wait 3 months and i told em to take that ETA and eat it. spl got em to me in 2 weeks for 500. a bit much but i was already gettin reamed on the deal. i paid like 350 for the rears with brand new oem parts and 80 for all four rotors from nopi. with the 200 dollar SE's with tires from johny5 i faired pretty well in the end.

eh, whatever.

i went with the S14 spindle/hub/balljoint route. I got all the parts for about 300 with new balljoints and hubs.

What are the bolt sleeves? Also I would like to go with the s14 stuff, becuase its oem and if I screw up and can easily replace part of it (bearings, studs...) But how do you guys find the oem stuff so cheap? And is it possible to press in the ball joints yourself?

jus wondering do you guys know what SS conversion lines are the best? like projectsilvia, spl, pdm, etc?

You only need bolt sleeves if you don't want to make the holes on your front struts bigger or don't have the S14 strut bolts. For the balljoints, I rented a balljoint press from autozone.

For conversion brake lines I went with SPL. Great quality at a really good price all 4 for $90+shipping

are those se rims? Where exactly do those bolt sleeves bolt into? Is that for the hub bolting to the spindle or the strut bolting to the spindle?

those sleeves are for the bolts to the spindle. IIRC the S14 spindle uses a bigger strut bolt and the S13 spindle uses a smaller strut bolt and the sleeves let u use the S13 strut bolt on a S14 spindle.

But if I were you I will go get the conversion hubs.. way more easier w/o the need to get the ball joint press and etc.

can the attain/gto or the peak performance (street or pro version) be changed out for longer studs? oem or aftermarket?

TK
05-06-2005, 10:02 PM
iirc the peak pro already comes with the longer studs, not sure the exact length tho... and the street you may be able to switch out with nismo or peak studs, see if wayne at phase2 knows.. i'm waiting on a set of hubs from him

will having the better bearings in the pro version or attains be that much more of a difference. A difference enough to warrent buying them.

RPS13_SR20DET

I think the attain hubs uses oem bearings and can use nismo stud whereas the peak performance uses their own stud and can't be replaced by nismo stud... correct me if i am wrong
