I can feel and hear a clunk on mostly left turns, a bit on right. It's like a shift and *clunk*. Steering isn't affected as far as I can tell.

I am looking if anyone has suggestions/if it's a common problem.

I will check (Saturday hopefully or Sunday depending on what goes down for Mother's Day and my birthday) the differential mounts, I am going to try and do some acceleration and deceleration tests to figure if it's backlash, spider gears or side gears (got an old datsun diff troubleshooting guide).

I know my wheel bearings are on their way out (80k mile 98 SE).

On the bright side my valve cover is a nice wrinkled red finish :) Longest part of the project was having to rinse it out when the steel wool shavings on a newspaper got blown 5 feet to land on the very underside of the valve cover.

Had the same issue here. I just had to replace the fluid.

could be sub frame bushings...
