I'm having a small problem with my SR. It seems that it is running a little lean on gas and I'm not sure how to adjust it. It blows out black smoke and it backfires a little when I give it a little bit of rev. Also it bogs when I first start it up but then when it warms up it goes away.

How do you know it's running lean? What's your timing set too? Throwing any codes? What is your spark plug gap?

last i checked, back firing isnt a sign of leaning...its rich. Like flybert said, check your timing and gap your plugs to .028. Also, do you have an open air bov? That could be one of your issue or a leak somewhere in your pipings.

check for leaks and if your recirculating your BOV. also black smoke means air/lean = fuel/rich IOW you are running rich. Bogging on the start is due to a cold start. your engine runs rich when its cold to allow it to warm up quicker. once the engine is up to temp all is well, usually.
