i dont think any tire would be 'better' for stretching, except perhaps something with a stiffer sidewall (sportier tires/azenis etc).

FWIW, a 225/45 on a 17x9 isnt a hard stretch at all. With that tire size, any performance tire you use will be fine.

what do you meant by performance tire???
so dunlop, bridgestone, yokohomo will work too?

I think he means any tire company that develops performance tires such as dunlop, bridgestone, yoko, kumho...etc etc etc. Tire stretching isn't based solely on tire compound but a combo of sidewall and tire ratio aspec such as a 45 series vs 60 series.

225 on a 9" isn't too vicious any OK tire will be fine. fm901's don't have a reinforced sidewall, i think correct me if i'm wrong, but people stretch the shit out of those, so who cares

I think they're called "Fuzion" Overall not a bad tire, but a cheap alternative marketed to dumbass ricers - one of the only types of people who would even want to "stretch" a tire.

^^that and drifters. I dont really see the point in getting such big wheels, and then stretching a small tire of them for drifting, why not just get a small wheel/tire combo and save the money?

FM901s are so easy to stretch dude, they have a squareish design and a non reinforced sidewall, they are cheap and they wear really nice even at the track.
Lets face it stretched tires and big wheels look pimp, for drifting ultimate performance doenst really matter.
For road racing obvoiusly you wouldn't stretch a tire nor run an offset that would only fit with -89.99 degrees camber

Stretching tires does contribute to the handling of a car, it's not a ricer mod like some of you think.
i can vouch for it...i run a 205-55-15 FM901 on stock steelies. If you swap setups you can really feel the sidewall bulge. You dont really notice it till it's gone. THen you'll wanna upgrade your wheels. Which is why i wanna ditch the steelies now

thanks for all the inputs...really appreciate it..
do you guys have any experience with specific brand and model?? please let me kno..im gonna use these tires for daily driving...which one will last longer?
do you guys kno any place in nor cal can mount the tires for me? i've been told its not an easy task and not that many shops will touch it...

its very easy to do
depends on the tire of course but leave the tire in the sun for a bit, bam no problem
shops just dont want to be liablve.
ive run stretched tires for over 2 years of various types
never had any dismounting/popping off problems. daily driven thru LA streets and parts of the state and track time

9 inch
205/40/17 - Used as fronts. Will cause understeer if you are not precise.
215/40/17 - Used these as fronts.
215/45/17 - Use these as fronts currently. really like them. Use them as rears sometimes.
225/45/17 - i use these in the rear on my KA S14.
235/40/17 - very popular in the front for drift cars. never used them, but dousan does.
interesting to see the 235's in the front, but to have everything make sense, i'd have to know what he runs in relation (rear size)

what brian said
i run 235/40/17 on 17x10
and a 215/45/17 on a 17x9
but going to 235/40/17 on the 9j soon
more grip up front

Ricers don't stretch tires. They: A. Don't drift
and: B. Don't have the aesthetic awareness to put a stretched tire on a rim good looking enough to pull it off.
Anyway, I'm new here. What's up everyone.
I don't have a 240 now, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be the next whip. i used to have an Altima, so I'm familiar with Nissans in general and the KA in specific. I'm going to lurk here and learn all I can about potential swaps, problems etc. And don't take it personally if I disagree. No attack meant, I just like to argue.
:fawk2:  :D
And to the topic starter, check out the Dunlop Direzzo. It's a new tire marketed to drifters. It's supposed to be comprable to the FM-901 as far as handling tendencies, but it's a lot cheaper.
I just ordered 2 for my GTI. In reading the reviews on tire rack, someone said he found them good for stretching.

225's on a 9" rim isnt even all that stretched, im putting 225's on my 9" rims, the tread is the exact same width as the rim. I hardly see it as a ricey or pointless mod. If i installed 255's on my 9" rims, they would hit the fenders and id have to increase negative camber. 225's are prime on 9" rims.

225/45/17 is recommended for 7-8.5" rim. Putting that on a 9" is definitely a stretch. Most people tracking a car with wheels that wide will use somethign between a 245 and 265 because those are the sizes that actually fit well.

Thats definitely a stretch, maybe not a 'drifter' stretch, but its not 'optimal fitting', thats for sure. I run 225 on 7.5s and 245s on 8.5s, I'd say thats pretty much right, theres no stretch, and the sidewall sits flush with the lip of the rim. Also, I know drifters like to run tiny tires (for the ease of breaking them loose), hoewever, wider front tires (235 as opposed to 215) will result in more oversteer off throttle oversteer and can actually help you put the car sideways earlier :naughtyd:

215/45/17 work the best on my 17x9 +15 fronts. During HPDE the car turned in very very well. they also rub less if at all than 225's or 235's

betcha $5 that 215/45/17 would've worked just as well on a 7 inch wide rim, not to mention rotational mass saved with the 7 inch wide rim.

Rub less than a 235?? One of my best friends has a kouki s14 on KTS coilovers and his car is LOW, and he runs 17x9 (15offset) up front and a 245/45/17 azenis sport with NO rub.

betcha $5 your right and that i dont give a shit because that's the whole point of stretching a tire onto a rim. if i went with a 7 in. wide rim, the tire wouldnt be so stretched and the front end wouldnt be as responsive
