I hope to upgrade my brakes tomorrow, but I want a final couple of opinions before I go ahead with it. And just for the veterans of Zilvia, yes I did do some searching on the site, I just want some specific suggestions.
Here's what I have:
30mm Aluminum Z32 calipers
Stock z32 rotors (turned)
Conversion SS lines from ProjectNissan.com
1 1/16th z32 MC (rebuilt Nabco from Autozone)
Front Pads (Nissan OEM)
Elf Moto dot 5.1 Brake Fluid
CRC Disk Brake Quiet (Antisqueak Goo)
The question is, when I got the calipers and removed the old pads and stuff, there were not any shims. The wire clips that go on the top of the caliper and go into the pins came new with the Nissan pads so I have those. I just want to know if I really need the shims or not. Several people say that they are not necessary and have been running without them for some time with no squeaks at all, but others recommend them. I have changed other disc brakes before, and never used shims, but I have always used the CRC Brake Goo with no problems.
Any input would be awesome.
