that sounds like a whole lot of ignorance for someone who's sig says:
91 240sx le
rb25det, hks hi power exhuast, hks dd super flow intake filter, hks evc ezII boost controller, exedy street strip clutch, greddy turbo timer, autometer carbon boost gauge, its a blast at 14 lbs.......
what's that about man?
S13? S14?
You also didn't tell us anything about your car.... mods? auto or 5spd?
civic totally stock or...?

how much HP does the civic make?
I feel dumb asking, as I owned a 96 5spd civic DX w/SOHC... but I drove it like 5 times in the 8months I had it :P (god I hate civics), I think it was like 127hp at the fly? somethin like taht
on a stock s14 tho, the WHP is something around 130's isn't it? and the S14 prolly weighs more than the civic too, so it's conceivable to lose if your bro is just a better driver. Where are u shifting at? how are u launching? what are your ft times?

civic is like BARELY reaching 100hp... also you gotta take in mind that s14 is a boat and the civic is a coke can. And maybe your motors busted...you should be able to take him np...you might be slower than a KA24E...if your loosing to a stock hatch. My SOHC ka take out b16 swaped hatches all day long(not by a huge amount but like half a car).. all i have are some minor bolt on.....
-bootleg filter adapter and cheap cone
-Electrical Fans, removed clutch fan
-alum crank pulley
-No ac
-no cat
-Advanced timing
And i have no interior other than dash,2 seats and doorpanels. Also my motor has 264k on the clock, and still runs strong i think its about to call it quits tho haha, funny thing is that i did the above to make the motor run better and give it some power the cheap way...i dont even drag race, just friends cars that i race messing around.

^^^i dunno what kind of b16s or civic hatches you're racing, but they'd run all over a N/A SOHC KA. The b16 puts out like 160hp, and then when most people do the swap, they get the i/h/e puting them at about 160WHP, and the EG civic hatch weighs 2300lbs, and the EK about 2400, compard to your MAYBE 135whp, and 2700lb car, they'd run all over you, unless of course the civic driver is shits.

^^ i definately agree. my B16 powered coupe runs consistant low 15's... the 2nd gen JDM B16 makes 170 horses. thats what i got. alot of people toss that in a hatch... should run 14's all day long..

get a american sports car..... if you wanna go fast.... just get one.... some of you out there still wont admit that american sports cars are fast...... :jerkit:

Yup they sure are fast. They burn twice the amount of fuel also. Most of them handle like crap and the engine doesn't sound like anything asian. Personal preference really..but I'd like to assume that most of the people on these boards wouldn't ditch their 240 for a mustang or whatnot.

where in his post is he concern about fuel consumption, handling, and engine sound?!? he is asking for suggestions.... seems like he wants to go faster than a civic.... and i made a couple suggestions.... :fawkd:
240's isnt some magical lil sports car that is can out do all the cars on the market.... hes been through a few 240's already.... maby the 240 isnt made for him after all...
you remind me of the lil kids that bought the 240 cause he saw it in a mag and thought drifting was cool....

Were we NOT talking about 4 cylinder cars? Were we NOT talking about japanese cars, and not american cars? I just replied to the fact that he was asking advice how to beat that civic with his 240, NOT some american car. Being asian, isn't it right for me to point out the flaws in which american cars possess? Are you saying "you" in your last sentence as opposed to me? You are right. My first connection wtih 240s was reading it in a magazine, and I heard they handle exceptionally well. But doesn't everyone have to start SOMEWHERE? Don't tell me you just woke up one day and said, "screw hondas and mazdas, i'm getting a nissan." I wouldn't believe you.
Don't act like you don't know what I mean -_-. Who the hell DOESN'T care about the things I pointed out. Those key facts I mentioned are what SEPERATES american cars and japanese cars. Throw a v8 into a 240 and it'd go faster than a mustang, guaranteed.

Wow... stop thread jacking. But you do sound like a noobie posting this up when you had already done so much to your s13.
Lets put it this way. Either your s14 engine is blown or you suck at driving but theres a lot of different variables to this; tires, clutch, hell maybe even your wheels. You cant go more than probably 175 hp without spending more money than it will cost you to turbo it. If you cant turbo it because the engine is about to break then you shouldnt be doing anything to it and start swaping it out for another ka or an sr, rb swap.
I have a friend who has an auto s14 w/ cai, exhaust, a lot of suspension mods and he beats civics all day long sometimes the vtec beats him. He hasent had the chance to race any of the swapped civics around here but once he does i think he will get beat. Now on a 5 speed its different but still KA's are fun and atleast faster than most the ricers out there.

oh.... ok i get it... a v8 is only good when its in a japanese car... i understand now.... :jerkit: of course its gonna be faster... but thats not gonna work because its not asian sounding enough for you.... remember??
i like my 240.. i bought it because im a nissan guy... so i guess yeah.. i woke up one day and said screw honda and mazda.... it fits me and my driving style close to perfect...
who the hell said anything about mustangs? i said american sports car.... are you that closed-minded?... anyways... what does being asian have to do with anything here to?! im asian... but i have enough experience to know that some cars are better than others.... the corvettes own everybody at autocross im talking about the 70's - early 90 year corvettes... the not so expensive ones..... there is even some late 80's mustangs that own too...
this isnt imports vs. domestics anymore... so grow up buddy... your 15 years too late... iv grown passed that... understand that all cars have there pro's and con's... depending what your driving style... some cars will out perform other cars... putting a v8 in a 240 will mess with your front suspension setup... gonna have to do some think work on this... so i guess the 240 isnt gonna handle now...even though the 240 is lighter... the chassis will also flex when you really get the power out of the v8... now you gotta do some chassis work.. so i guess you loose again...
sorry buddy you dont know what your talking about.... :wavey: he sounded like a person who wants to go fast.... without lots of work and money the 240 isnt really a go fast car on a drag strip or street whatever he does... i tried to save him some time and suggested a good go fast car... :jerkit:
im done typing... i can site here all night and fight this out... but you dont know what your talking about... if you dont have a real answer to any of this... just concider your self done....
sorry to thread jack dr1ft32... got to ka-t.org for some good turbo info... for the ka... alot of info here of course to on zilvia... nicoclub.com has some bad ass NA ka info to.. probly the best.... to work on the top end where the ka sucks at... try PDM cams... it feels like they kinda move the power band twards the top end... good luck on your civic killing quest... im sorry that joker made me cloud your post...

Okay you know what, whatever. There is no point in arguing when the other person deliberately IGNORES the idea you are trying to get across, even though they clearly know what I'm talking about. I said throw a v8 into a 240 sarcastically. But even if you really were to do that, it WOULD go faster than a v8 in a camaro. I referred to mustang because it was the first thing that came to mind, sorry if it really offended you. Vetts owning at autox...hmm what kinna autox do you run in?
Maybe where you live the japanese car drivers just suck? Oh so you care about handling now? Then we should just drop all of the american cars then, why bother if it can't handle? Lemme ask you one more thing, did I EVER say v8 was only good in a japanese car? Not asian enough for me? You are OH SO FUNNY! I need to grow up? I'll grow up when you do, and a grown up usually thinks before he talks. Being a 240 guy, you sure sound like you can turn into a corvette guy in an instant. I don't wanna argue with you too much, since i know none of us would back off anyway.
I didn't say american cars are SLOW did I, i just said they fail in comparison by ALOT when you are comparing the other factors. Straight line drags aren't everything there is to driving.

Ok lets say they do have 160hp...think about the powerband diffrence, Honda power is all end of 3rd, and 4th...All top end, powerband on a KA is 1, 2, and for some reason my ka still pulls fine in 3rd gear. I got my 240 down to 25**lb, And yea they start to catch up but by then its time to shut down (street)....I agree on fwy or all top end they will beat me no prob. But also they have stock b16 with an intake...and b16 has NO torque=dont move out of the line. And I/H/E dont get a honda to 160whp...i was a honda guy couple of years back...And bolt ons like that dont really add 40whp..b16 has 160hp to the wheel is like 13*ish so that mean that a simple intake, exhaust, and header will add about 2*whp? This is also with a HEALTHY motor... And also driver...I get REAL good grip out of the launch while they spin....

back on topic................ CLUTCH SLIPPING... if u cant hang with a stock civic...thats bad, atleast pull in 1st and 2nd... probably lose in 3rd cause of the infamous vtech... lol... if timing is right and the engine runs fine... hands down i guarantee its the clutch..

04-29-2005, 02:36 AM
Yea probably clutch, and maybe tires, lsd. I was FREAKING slow when my clutch was slipping. I swear, I get mad when I get owned by Vans in a green light take off cause of clutch. And driver matters too. Now if you gonna do mods, think about doing pully. It helps a lot.

Honda Bseries engines are notorious for great bolt on power, especially ones with vtec. And 20 or so whp is easily gained with i/h/e
http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/projectcars/0204scc_civicengine/
and as said before, the average driver with a b16 powered EG hatch is good for high 14's
The simple end of it is that your KA has something wrong with it or else you'd have no problem keeping up with a relatively stock SOHC Civic.
I had a smiliar problem with my DOHC KA 5 speed. It ran fine, zero problems but just no power. That motor didn't stick around long enough for me to figure out what was wrong.
