ok so im new to the 240 scene and i have a few questions. first ive been looking around at engine swaps and im looking for low-mid end power. ive heard the best choice is to go with the ka24det. i have an 89 fastback and i was wondering what parts would be needed to make a decent custom setup. i think somwhere around 220-270rwhp would be good for me. thanks for your time and any response would be greatly appreciated. also i have been browsing the posts for about two weeks and can't seem to find what im looking for. thanks.

search around before you do any swap/KAT project and inform yourself on all you can.

As far as for the KAT you really need to have a healthy motor, i would recomend a comp check and leakdown test. And you have a KA24E so it wont be easy to get 220WHP with stock internals, You could eather use that, or swap in a KA24DE...and work with that... but just so you get an idea il give ya a small list of the major components...you dont have to follow the setup i give..but thats what i had for my KAT project..witch is no more..

you need the following

-manifold (ebay)
-turbo (use a t25 out from sr)
-Intercooler (stock sidemount?)
-piping (you can use the stock sr is you use the sr sidemount)
thats just of the top of my head..you need more than that
but its 5 am and im tired.... im gonna let you do some hw as well, but thats pretty much the basics feel free to PM me for help.

good luck

'89 240sx, and new to the scene you say?.. Here's what I would suggest..

1. plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil change, seafoam treatment, O2 sensor and any other basic maintenance.
2. Assuming that you got this car for drifting, you should probably lower it. Coilovers are the best way, but for now you can get away with a good shock/spring combo.
3. Check your Tension/Compression rods, as the bushings are probably shot to hell. replace those with pillowball T/C rods.
4. Install Aluminum Subframe spacers.
(these two are both relatively cheap and very effective mods)
5. Learn how your car behaves at and beyond the limits of your setup.
6. If you can afford it, get an LSD of some sort.

Then...

Just have fun!

You don't need a whole heap of power to start drifting. It's all about control, but you'll probably not listen, and get a turbo kit and either blow your engine or wrap your 240 around a tree.

that's just my two cents..

KA-T is a waste of time for drift posers and bandwagon bunnies.

If you want to get started right away get some coilovers and an LSD.

Get a good seat too or your but be doin dori-dori INSIDE the car while you doriiiiiiifto! I'm serious, try linking drifts in the OEM leather seats, my butt like to dori-dori while I'm gripping thru S-curves.

better yet try NICO or 240sxforums and ask them to see what works. I have heard great things from those who go to drifting.com too. very knowledgeable users on those sites. and they don't flame you.

hahahhahahah at all the posts above maeda.... most you guys really dont know too much at what you are talking about..

thread starter... go to ka-t.org and search... you will get better results... this forum is very good with everything else besides kats... ka-t.org doesnt have as many noobs that bought there 240sx because they saw it in a ricer mag and thought it was cool because it was drifting....

so...go to ka-t.org and search....because... you wont get people like that always posting new covered topics and make it harder to search for good already said information.......like you.... good luck...

ive already lowered it with springs and shocks (couldnt afford coil-overs yet). an just basic stuff like larger exhaust, intake and strut towers. i picked up the car because ive always liked the style of it. then i started getting into drifting (i still suck but hey i know my limits and im still learning). the reason im looking into a swap is i would just like some extra torque an power to throw around. its already fun to drive but has 180000+ miles on it and i would rather swap in a motor with more potential than rebuild what its got. also nice links. lotsa info. thanks again

now its time to get a lsd or welded diff... i wouldnt advise getting a welded diff because of the area u live in... but i could be wrong...

more power is nice but entrance speed is a factor.... if u swap in a de, then your going to spend the extra amount to go turbo... if your on a budget i suggest ca18det. or sr20det.. ur choice...

Wait 'til the leather disintegrates. The foam part of the seat is, actually, quite grippy!

For the original poster, welcome to the scene. I will now fly the "Search N00b" flag in your honor:

why is this thread in existance? introduction is not tech, and there's a KA-T faq to read at the top of this section.

since it's SOHC, drive that shit to death and beat on it as much as you can until it just quits. Don't do any swaps or whatever engine work until you master ur shit. Stock is always more reliable as long as you maintain ur car so you don't have to worry about engine when you have a lot more to worry about. 180k is nothing. My Ka have 195k and still kicking strong at drift events and Interstate highways from San Diego to San Francisco every 3 month. So yea stick with ur motor and learn ur shit first.

yah u are maeda lol..... and so is everyone else lately........and where is the touge house? u guys happen to have a keg and a beer bong there?

Touge house is at the base of about 4 different mountain runs that we like to drive... By we I mean my housemates...

4 RWD + 1 FWD..

We like to drink too, but that usually happens on seperate nights before driving events.... Except me because my cars always broken I usually pussy out as far as track events go (I am the ultimate poser!).

Thats about it.
