Can anyone recommend a good set of tires for drifting?  Long lasting and able to handle the harsh conditions.

I'd just say get kumos (sp?) or something that can be had for under $70 per tire. Unless you are drifting all the time (IE: this isn't your daily driver) you will want an all around good setup, your rear will wear down naturally. Besides you want good tires so you can regain, traction. You should be able to drift brand new R compound tires without a problem...it will just take higher speeds and/or a higher HP car to carry the drift as long as you could with regular tires.

the best kind of tire for drifting is a free one, but If you can't get free ones, I recommend going to one of those used tire shops that sell tires for dirt cheap.

I usually would free tires from junkyard that didn't care about keeping tires on the wrecked cars.  you might wanna try that route.

For me, a good drift tire is
a.) cheap
b.) had high treadwear rating
c.) is very predictable

Yoko S304s are decent at being predictable..  If you have the power for it, Kumho Ecsta Supras and Falken Ziex are good tires that will last you awhile and not be crazy expensive. Keep in mind that if you are NA / low power, skinnier = better, pretty much..  195/60 or so is pretty good.. If you drift, using smaller wheels in the back is good, because you can break traction more easily, AND tires are cheaper!

Cooper Cobras.  You can probably find a decent set at a junkyard too.

word. after watching that options video, i found out that for "budget drifting", less is more.
