hey guys my oxidized headlights were really pissing me off and i was gonna try pulling them apart and cleaning them, but then i went to advanced auto parts. they have this stuff from meguires thats called PLASTX. If your oxidation is only on the outside of your lights, like mine, this shit will make your lamps look almost brand new. Its a couple of bucks but very worth it if you are pick about details like me. took about 15 minutes to do all my lights. no removal or anything neccessary.

no way!
for realz???
i just heated mine up with a torch and then clear coated htem
it's a heat treatment that only body shops usually do...it works way better then any polishing you can do though
the trick is to hold the heat in one spot for about 30 seconds and then move...spray while you're heating too...like heat 30 seconds...spray clear over it...then od the next section
looks better then brand new glass

polishing compounds and stuff are nice and all but you have to redo it like every week.
polish + clearcoat it and be done.

I melted my healights trying that method... ;[
Seriously, how many times do I have to tell you people, sand paper it and follow it up with 3M poishing compound and it works wonders, it does get oxidized over time again, but doing it once 6 months isn't bad at all....

haha, cool I like it. your signature explains alot. NOT. :fruit: whatever. pretty much every S14 owner has delt with this in some form or another. better common knowledge of owning a car with standard headlights should have experience in some form of dealing with yellowing headlamps. :werd:

Maybe to bring things back on-topic.. headlights turning yellow isn't a problem of oxidation, it's due to the plastic not being UV-stable. Most headlight cases are polycarbonate (lexan) for shatter resistance, and then have a coating of acrylic that is uv-stable. Over the years, if the acrylic gets scratched, the base Polycarb sees uv light and turns yellow. it happens all the time. The trouble with polishing the yellow out is that it will come back, because now you've polished away all the uv-stable acrylic coating. Like it's been suggested, you'll need to polish, and then lay over a durable coating of something that's uv-stable. I think clearcoat would work fine.
cheers,
C

looks good sr240det... considering you can do that to your lights for like 10 bucks, i really don't see how the german headlights are ever worth the $$$.
my lights came out similar... used mothers mag polish, wax and rainx.

just buff, wash and degrease, then apply clear.

There was that guy a while back either on here or FA who was offering to do a coating of 3M Xpel film on headlights too. They use that stuff for invisible nose bras on cars that tend to chip a lot. The dude wanted like $75 or something, might be worth it if you don't feel like spraying clear.
