Is this just engine mounts, or is there a tranny mount as well? It looks a lot simpler/less substantial than, say, the cusco mounts. Can you give a comparison?

I will try to answer all three questions here. First off they have been tested on a track car and there was some vibration though nothing more than what you get off polyurethane in your suspension, i.e. nothing substantial. On a street car with interior I am sure it would be less.
They are very solid in that your shift lever will not rock back and forth like stock mounts and yes they are beefier than Nismo mounts in strength.
These are the real deal capable of handling over 500 HP. They are simple yet very strong and light that was our goal.
Similiar mounts are going in my S13 RB25 car in case your wondering about them. I cannot directly compare them to the Cusco cause I have never used the Cusco. I have seen the Cusco and I feel what we have designed is more than appropriate for our cars. Like I said they have been tested on a track car and the results where quite favorable in my opinion.
They have proven quite durable.
At the current time we have developed the engine mounts and have not done the the tranny mount yet. We have been discussing it and if there is enough feedback and commitment for it, we will go and do it.
This Group buy has a current mininum length of two weeks right now. I.E. we would like to see 15 people commit in the Next couple of weeks . I do not think you will be sorry on these but they are for the serious drivers.
I hope I have answered everyones questions.

Damn D, where were these 3 weeks ago when I bought my nismo's! I would totally have gone for these. They look really stout and I bet they're way easier to install than stock mounts, since they're nowhere near as bulky. Definitely making use of the K.I.S.S. principle. Bump for Drift Freaq!
For those who haven't heard the term, K.I.S.S is short for "Keep it simple, stupid".
disclaimer: I'm in no way implying that drift freaq and company are stupid, that's how the saying goes, and it refers to nice, clean, straightforward design. Good stuff..

yea, are there any other color options? Not too fond of the yellow. Also, yes, get a tranny mount in development. Make a whole set, a lot more people would be biting on this if there was a transmission mount I think.
But yes, I'm most likely in, pending color and when you're going to take money. I'd rather you take money once you have 15 people committed.

this is a a first run special the color reflects the pricing. We are commited to doing other colors but the pricing will be a bit higher. Once we can see a commitment towards the first 15 then we can move forward into other colors and tranny mounts but until then we need the first 15 to make things happen.
As far as the money is concerned I am not taking money in at the moment and most likely will not start till the commitment level gets to around 10 if not 10 or more. Reason for not waitinng till 15 is its easier to start taking money in from people when the decide they want to get in, then have them wait and pull out at the last minute thereby extending the time. Its a group buy and the fact is the nature of it is a waiting period .
Sometimes it moves quickly other times it takes a little longer .

How do you know that they are "beefier in strength" than the Nismo mounts? Have you compared both materials and grades side by side?
And the "over 500hp" business? I don't know where else these have been tested because you have not told us, but from the looks of it, they are shown on an N/A SR20DE, which may or may not be turning out over 500hp, who knows? ;)
Not trying to be a skeptic at all, please don't misunderstand my post. Just trying to figure out what real advantages these have over the tried and true Nismo mounts. Price definately isn't an increadibly noticeable difference if you factor in the trans mount that Nismo includes for under $200 shipped.
For those of us who have something to lose here, there needs to be a greater selling point than neon yellow, non-brand (or not mentioned), "heavy duty" motor mounts. I realize the favor you're trying to do us Zilvian's by offering some sort of alternative, and I appreciate it, I do. So as far as buyer feedback goes for this post:
-need color options (or some detail about the price differences between other colors)
-need some more construction information, real evidence.
-need pricing on the eventual option of a transmission mount. A lot of use like to plan ahead, and use a matching set of mounts all around. Even if it won't be available for another few months.
-oh, and get some bigger pics please!
Hope everything goes well with the group buy, I'll be twidling my thumbs till you need a 15th person :aw:

Ben do you know engineering? CAn you run engineering numbers. I have had numbers run on these mounts the only reason I did not mention them is I did not want to get super technical in the post for the sake of the non tech people.
These have a durometer rating that is equal to 9000lb tensile strength!!!!
Yes the car they are pictured on is a NAsr20de with ITB's . It was taken for the purpose of showing the mounts. The mounts have been run on track cars . i.e. race cars. Did you notice the nitrous kit? on that NAsr with ITB's car has not been dynoed but is estimated in th high 300's horsepower wise.!!!!!!
Again I will state this is a special test market product and price. As I stated earlier the color is not written in stone . this is the first batch and they are in this color pricing will be based on final costs. I can gurantee these will be better priced than the Nismo's.

Seriously, $85 for 2 pieces of Urethane tubes? First call to a urethane machining company quoted me about $45 for 10 pieces with your durometer rating of 70. But thats not including hardware. It looks like on that second pic the urethane is deforming, you could have at least use a washer on top and bottom of it.

Ya well, if you read the thread completely, you would see I stated these are custom made not off the shelf stuff. urethane tubes? Using a Urethane tube would not properly support the weight of the engine. In addition, from a engineering perspective, you would realize that a urethane tube with a bolt through the middle would transfer the majority of the vibration directly through the bolt .
In case your wondering, there are steel plates moulded into the urethane on each side of the mount.

ok here is the deal people. the first run is Yellow, there is no way around that! We will have black ones coming in a few weeks, if you want them now, Yellow is how they are going to be!
Yellow ones are priced as follows $85 per set
Black ones will be $100 per set
you want the better price you will have to get yellows.
As far as transmission mounts go, they are not nearly as straight forward to manufacture as the engine mounts. If you got underneath your car and looked at your trans mount, you would see, how complicated they really are, in the manufacturing process.
Not that we are not going to try and go there, but its just not as easy a process, to the point, that we can say, oh snap, here we just made the transmission mounts.
In the interim, what I can do, is offer you the Nismo trans mount with the motor mounts for $40 more. do the math that works out to $125 for a set of motor mounts with Nismo trans mount for yellow and $140 a set for blacks.

when will you need the money by. And also when you say they are the same hight as stock the stock ones sag as time goes on, this sucks for performance but it makes the motor sit a little lower which is good. By same hight as stock do you mean that when I replace my sagging mounts my motor will rise or will it stay at the same height. Sorry to be nit pickky. Btw I like your design it's much more straight forward than anyone elses.

The mounts should be in stock next week. At that time we would be willing to start taking orders on them and shipping.
Our mounts were designed with the same height dimensions as a new stock mount. Urethane does not sag nearly as much as rubber over time.
Our mount is designed with a offset stud(like the stock mount) but without the indexing tab.
This allows you to rotate the position of the mount during installation.
As the factory crossmember is slotted it gives you slight ecentric adjustment , addressing height and directional clearance issues. This could be advantageous to custom turbo setups etc.

hehehehe, ya the bolts are offset like the stock mounts. We put a lot of thought and research into these babies. It was not a case of snap lets grab some off the shelf stuff and slap a mount together. If you follow the thread you will see that we set out to do these things right. Thats why the yellow batch did sell out. I am sure soon, people will be reporting back, how much they like them.

any possibility of making yellows again at your low price?

Well, the price difference on the Blacks vs Yellow shipped is like $10. The Yellows shipped for $105 per set, and the Blacks will be shipping for $115 a set .
Unless you really want Yellows, I would not see $10 as being a big enough price difference to forego getting the Blacks.

cool , there is no mechanical difference between the two colors.
The original pricing on the Yellows was a introductory offer. only. The current pricing will reflect prices regardless of color, Yellow or Black.
There is another batch of Yellow in production and will be available shortly, for the same price as the Blacks.

i might be down for some black ones but i would like to see some feedback from customers as too how much engine movement they can feel. Plus, how long are these suppossed to last? seems like they might crack prematurely, but idk, it is a solid piece of urethane right? not hollow?

Did you read the response's I wrote earlier in this thread? Yes its solid urethane with metal top and bottom plates, embedded in each end for the studs. Urethane tubes would trasmit the vibration of a stud running down the middle and would collapse under the pressure.
I said it earlier in the thread and I will restate. The durometer on these is high enough to equal a 9000lb tensile strength. you will not feel engine movement nor will your engine move hehehhehhe. I have tested a set in a car myself at this point and was very sastisfied with the lack of movement and the lack of vibration. I am using a version of these mounts, that we made for my RB powered Fastback, which is about to hit the road. Hopefully it will be running in time to bring it to the socal BBQ, in a week and a half.
As far as cracking urethane is not like FPR fiberglass. It has a certain amount of elasticity to it.

I checked my P.M.'s I never got one from you. I have been busy but I look at P.M.'s everyday. The pricing on the mounts with the Nismo tranny mount shipped is $165 to you. if you use paypal there is a $6 charge on top of that. If your going to Mail me the money you need to send a U.S. postal money order. Out of state checks get held by the bank for 10-15 days.

the price on the Yellows and Blacks will now be the same the original deal price was introductory. Basically that means Yellows which are in stock now are $115 plus a $5 paypal shipped. with the Nismo tranny mount it would be $160

I know I can use a CC with paypal, the problem is that I use my gf's paypal account because I've been too lazy to create my own so every time I use it I have to have her pay and then give her the cash or write her a check and its just easier for me to use my CC, thats all. If I send you the money later today would it be shipped today and whats the latest I could send over the money to get it shipped today because I'm guessing the next day you'll be shipping things out is Tuesday right?

shipped to you in canada would be $175 with paypal.
There is no ETA on the black ones. The Normal color is Yellow . I know some of you have been saying ewwww I don't like Yellow. Just a point , the yellow does happen to signify its a performance item. Blacks will look rather stock.
Also its not like they are easy to see once they are in a Turbo car.
In the pics provided, they show up more readily, due to the ITB setup. Most racers/drifters do not really care about the color of and engine mount though. We have been looking into the blacks, because people have requested them, but at this particular moment it turns out, getting the blacks manufactured would take longer . Therefore, I am suggesting, that most of you forego your dislike of the yellow as it will not be that visible and give the mounts a try . I think you will wind up being more than satisfied with them.

I finally got these mounts installed on my SR powered car and thought I'd give you guys my opinion on them. At first I found the yellow color to be a bit odd, but after installing them, I actually like it. In fact, most of my friends think they look trick. I'm very impressed with the way they control engine movement, yet hardly transfer any vibration at all. My shifter doesn't move around any more, and the shifting feels more precise. The other nice thing is that the round compact design makes them easy to slip into position. If any of you have tried installing Nismo, you'll know what I mean. Overall, they are a great deal when compared to any other polyurethane mounts available (JDM). Thanks for a great deal!

well, I can say, they are starting to speak for themselves. Quite a few people have purchased them and a lot of people are purchasing them. They do have a 9000 lb tensile strength rating, i.e. 70 Durometer. Which is pretty damn heavy duty.

well for the time being the batchs will be in Yellow. Sorry but,the Yellow are selling and they signify something other than stock, wereas blacks look stock. We would have to have a larger order to do Blacks and it would take a lot longer . It would not be a few weeks till the next batch.
Also we did not have a $30 price increase the introductory price was not $85 shipped but $85 plus shipping which came out to $100 shipped . The price is now $115 shipped thats a $15 price increase and minimal to say the least for the quality of the mounts. Color changes will not affect pricing.

Nismo are Black and very similar to stock in looks and they sell just fine so that should kill the color arguement.
As far as the sales, I'm sure it's the price, not the yellow that is doing the selling.
Sorry for the error I made on the price increase being $30 when it was just $15. My mistake.

hehehehe its cool, no you missed my point on the statement about the Yellows. I was not stating they are selling because of the color, I was saying they are selling period.
I basically stated the reasons why going to Black right now would not be wise decision on our part.
People want the product now, as long as we keep supply out there, things will pick up. If things pickup sufficently, then we would be able to do a run large enough, to hold us over while trying to produce another color. Till then it would not be a wise decision on our part.
We need to keep product available for the buying public plain and simple.
We have not done a trans mount yet as because there is a lot of work involved in the trans mount .
Again, when things pickup we will be better equipped to deal with doing a tranny mount.

Mine just came in. They don't look half bad. When business picks up you can use pee-pee yellow as your trademark!
Can't wait to get these installed on my car. Unfortunately, it won't be for a couple months because they are going in with an SR. Until then i won't be able to give a review. They look and feel very hardcore though - the urethane is extremely stiff. The mount won't move at all when i try to bend it by hand like the stock SR/KA mounts would.

Mine came with just the left one as well. Which makes sense because the exhaust/turbo/hot stuff is on the left side of the engine.

Question: Were engine and tranny mounts shipped separately?
you got PM, no biggie
Usagi

If you look at the stock mount, it only has a metal plate on the left side as well. It is a heat shield to protect the mount on the exhaust side only. As for installation, I did it using only a floor jack and some basic tools. The trick is to replace one side at a time.
Start by raising the front of the car. Next, loosen the four nuts (don't remove the nuts completely on the side opposite of the mount you are replacing)-- this allows the engine to lift on the side you want to replace (at an angle) when you raise the engine. You now need to position the jack under the engine using extreme caution not to crush the oil pan!! This means either to avoid using the oil pan as a lifting point, or to use a large thick board to distribute the pressure being applied to the oil pan and lift from the edge of the pan (which is stronger than the center). The idea is to raise each side seperately leaving the other mount in place. After the old mount is removed, place the new one into position, lower the engine till the mount is in place and rotate the mount till it centers. Do the same for the other side, tighten everything up, lower the car, and you are done. Once again, don't dent the oil pan!! The oil pickup sits behind the pan. If you dent the oil pan, you can restrict the flow of oil into the pump and burn up the engine!!

I've been driving on these for a while and have no complaints about these mounts. I'm sure it's relative to the condition and setup of car you put them in, but I've got no rattle noises or uncomfortable vibration inside the car. Considering how well they hold the engine in place, I could not ask for a smoother ride.

im a KA about 2 years and i have an addiction. ive got the cusco mounts initially and found them very satisfactory. they were very stiff, the engine had better throttle response on the lower and higher rpms. i could downshift on the freeway and pass people better because more power was being transmitted to the wheels. one big catch though, the cusco mounts dont sit right when installed with the KA. they angle the engine slightly toward the driver side, so the shifter is moved, the tranny is moved, and the tranny mount is stressed. (i got the SPL PARTS tranny mount too) this setup was nice, but the crooked engine was a bitch to deal with.
the new engine mounts were very yellow on first impression and the quality of the mounts couldnt compare to the cusco, but at half the cost, i got what i expected. these engine mounts positioned the engine to stock specifications and lined up the drivetrain unlike the cusco mounts on the KA. the throttle response in the low rpms were reduced by still noticable over...stock engine mounts,ewwww. high rpm repsonse was reduced a little too. the vibration inside the car was a lot less than the cusco. the cusco mounts would rattle my dash.
in conclusion. these yellow mounts are much recommended and are a much better buy than the cusco mounts for KA users. so far the mounts have seen one track day and are feelin fine.

got black in yet? + tranny mount (in stock)
Jugs, I was asked this question one page back on the thread. Here is my reply: "well for the time being the batchs will be in Yellow. Sorry but,the Yellow are selling and they signify something other than stock, wereas blacks look stock. We would have to have a larger order to do Blacks and it would take a lot longer".
In short in order to keep stock up for the people we are currently only doing them in Yellow. On the tranny mount I have said this before and I will say it again. The tranny mount is no small feat to do. It would be simple to just copy someone but we would rather make a product we were satisfied with than copy someone else.
This philophsy is evident in my own RB25 swapped car. We made a lot of original prototype stuff because we wanted to do it right.

I just got finished installing the mounts. Now i need to get the engine running so i can write a review. So far so good though. They lined up perfectly.
Word of advice - be very careful not to strip the bolts by the subframe like i did. I had to cut the old mount off with a saws-all, broke a drill bit inside the hole while drilling out the old stud, and then had to grind off the leftover piece of mount. Heat the old nut with a blow torch and then spray it down with a bunch of penetrating oil and let it sit for an hour or so.
Heres a bad pic of the driver's side mount.

Got them in a few days, drift freq said he ship them Monday, then I got them today (Wednesday). Super fast. The look simple but nicely built. I put them in about 45 min cause I took my time. If you have both engine mounts off, I suggest bolting the bottom part first just a little bit so it holds. The drop the engine down so the other screw can go through the top mount. Doing this you can move the mount up and down to get the top screw on. Then drop the engine down and tighten all bolts.
Before I can move the engine by hand, now I can't with the new engine mounts. I haven't start the car, cuase I just cleaned my oil pan and have no oil. got to buy some. I will post another after I get some oil and drive the car.
But so far the product is good. And It works on my Ka24e.

The issues you are raising have already been addressed in this group buy several pages back. Did you even read it all? We do not use a solid bolt through the middle, that would cause vibration issues as well as the problem you're talking about. Here is a nice little rundown for you.
1. Our studs are offset, based off embedded steel plates on either side of the mount.
2. Our polyurethane has a 9000 lbs tensile strength. High quality Urethane is very pliable to give the flexability needed, to keep the metal crossmember from becoming fatigued.
3. Our Product is already track tested in race cars with many hours on them, as well as several drift cars here in socal.
