what is the minimum amount of parts i can get to do a timing chain job?
thing is i am in the middle of a complete engine rebuild from ground up (spare engine) and my timing chain is making some noise. i am guessing it will be about 2-4 months before i get all parts ready and put together. last thing i need is for this motor to take a dump on me. it is a 98 ka with 134k on the clock.
is it safe to wait untill i am ready to dump that thing?

I say wait 2-4 months, alot of KA's chains rattle. Mine rattled like a snake for over a year before I changed it. If you spend all the time to take the whole front of the motor off then you better replace everything......might as well while your there. There are no gaskets involved per Nissan, I used one (from Pepboys) on the thermo housing since I had a leak issue there before from not using one. Everything else I used black gasket gunk crap from the autoparts store. Dont jackup your headgasket taking it appart and putting it back together! knock on wood! Took me 2 days to finish mine...had to drop the crossmember and unbolt the motor mounts to get my oilpan off (cannot get the front lower cover off w/o taking off the oilpan since the oil pump is bolted into some baffle under there AND to the front lower cover). DL a FSM from here first and print the pages you need, Good luck!
