Ok, so like 95% of 240 drivers, my 89 SOHC has a tick and rattle that were until recently only present during start up. That all changed about a month ago when my rattle was present constantly during low rpms. I simply figured that it was just about time to do the timing chain job, though I thought it odd that I needed too since this motor was rebuilt by the previous owner. Well today things took a turn for the worse. Started her up today and the rattle was much louder and apparent till about 3000 rpm, whereas it had previously gone away at about 1000-1200 rpm. I double checked the oil to make sure it hadn't somehow leaked out, but it was fine. I figured that timing chain tensioners were now shot and that this weekend I would do the chain. Well I drove the car about 50 miles today during which time it was noisy, but there was no loss of power or any other negatives. That is until I went to pull onto my street coming home. The car suddenly died and the oil light came on. Well this freaked the shit out of me and I damn near shit my pants. I tried starting it back up and it did no problem, still rattley as hell. Getting home, I checked the oil level again, but it was still fine. I now believe that my engine's problem is the oil pump, not the timing chain. I really need advice here guys, as this is my daily driver. Please respond ASAP! Thanks
