10w-30 for summer, 5w-30 for winter. 5w is thinner and it makes it easier for the engine to start and run right away in the morning.

My bf and I use 5w-30 in the winter and 10w-30 in the fall, spring, & summer. 5w-30 is a little bit thinner, so when it's cold out, it doesn't get as thick so it's easier on your engine, while still giving enough lubrication.

I think it's also depend on how many miles the engine got..for engine that have 120k+ miles i'll recommend 10w30 winter and 20w50 in summer...but again it's all personal preferance u know??

Why do you recommend using a thicker oil in a more worn engine? I understand that it may need the extra lubrication, but I would think the extra viscosity may possibly put the engine & oil pump under more strain.
Just a question--not doubting you, just wondering.

yes u r right..but i guess that living in the south ( Alabama) where it's a lot hotter about 90+F in summer the thickness of the oil will cool of the engine more than the thinner 1 , again yes i know that thiner oil is better than thicker one. it's all personal preferrance and just another reason is that thick oil may help on preventing oil leak on the high mileage engine..( i think!! correct me if I'm wrong ) we all just friends here ..
