My sisters car is a 240sx and it is acting up. When you give it gas it doesn't respond, then all of a sudden while still depressing the gas further it revs up real quick. It is stalling when you slow down or come to a stop, and is nearly impossible to drive. We have replaced the fuel filter and messed with the idle. But no luck. Any suggestions?

Does she have a five-speed? If yes, when the clutch is slipping, it feels like there is no throttle response.

You should also see if there's any carbon deposit on the throttle and the hoses, that also causes the pedal to be sticky.

Its definately not the clutch. It doesn't slip or pop out of gear, it stalls. Thanks for the response though.

have you ohmed out your injectors? does it run rough at idle? check the resistance. if not reply back and we will try and solve this

Not yet. What should the resistance be?

i don't know about your car but for my S13 SOHC i just bought a new TPS(Throttle Position Sensor) and it worked fine after that...

Have you done a tune up recently? Plugs, rotor, cap, wires, etc.

I would then check air, spark, fuel to make sure it is being delivered. If you haven't already done so, clean your IAV, TPS, and MAF. These can cause drivability and idle issues.
