Thought this sounded like a good chat idea!!

Well there are alot of choices of cars to buy and I was selling my old 79' 320I bmw and keeping my 88 prelude that I was fixing up for the past couple of years and wanted another car to fix up that was newer. I've always liked the cars they use in drifting and focused on a S14 to buy and after a month of looking I found one for under 6G's a 95' Se in good condition and here I am! :rawk:

dad bought me my first 240sx cause he thought is looked cool... he also thought that the engine was rebuilt cause it ran so strong...

end up totalling that and i wanted another car that had good handling and was newer than 1990 ended up getting a 91 coupe cause it was all i could afford... $1150.

plus i didn't want the family van.

back in 2001 I wanted to find something that was cheap and RWD. I tries to find a kouki s14 but they were all going for 15k more or less. Six months later i found a 96 with 36k for $10500, thought i couldnt pass up the deal so i drove from SF to seatle and bought it. It was one of the happiest days of my life... =)

The Integra I wanted to buy looked like crap.. then I found my S14 for $500 more. It was a done deal.

This was in March 2003, before D1GP

I loved the fastback since my brothers chick got one back in 89, I grew up, got a job and had some money to play with so I started looking. I was disapointed though seeing 240's go for like $3k-$4k so I just gave up till 2 years ago I found an old man with a `90 selling for $2500. I told him i'd give him $1800 or i'de break his legs and reape his wife (not really) so he said ok. I drove her home that day (my 240sx not the wife)

i wanted a tt 300zx but then i saw the engine bay....then i wanted an mr2, but my parents said i had to have a car with back seats (yeah go figure) and they didnt like all the talk about turbos cuz all that meant to them was more speed, so they said, buy something else. Went on google/msnautos/consumer reports/etc... and searched for affordable/reliable rwd cars with decent aftermarket support. Eventually, I stumbled onto this website in the summer of 2001 and started lurking around, learning about these cars and thats when i saw WeST's old ka-t s14. One look at it and i was hooked. A year later i found my car and officially joined this place. I would've joined back then, but at the time i thought it would've been dumb to join and not have a car. haha :D

My dad bought my 240 for me because I didn't want to drive his 1980 corvette. And I guess he likes how the 240 looks (kinda similar to his corvette I guess). And I did some research on these cars and found out they had a lot of potential.

My dad and I were always into cars so I always had something cool to drive. I've had a Z31, Silverado, and a C4 Corvette. When I went to college I needed something more practical so I got a Prelude (which I still love). When I had some money to play with I decided to go back to the RWD thing I got started in so I started looking for S30s, Z32s, and S13s. I found a running '89 hatch for $700 so I bought it and didn't like the compression numbers so I swapped in the SR. Then I found a '93 hatch for $300 and bought it, swapped the SOHC (I know, I know) in and I love them. If that makes me a bandwagon guy, I'll gladly accept that label and thank all of you guys for making ridiculously cheap, light, RWD cars with lots of potential popular. :)

I have been wanting to build an SR powered S14 for about 4 years now. I got into the S13/S14 scene about a year before Drifting went mainstream. But i never had the money to do it. So i ended up with a Turbo Eclipse, then built that, and sold it. Then my inbetween car was an ae86 that really got me hooked on the scene!!! Then bought the s14 that i have currently. And paid for the clip with the money i had left over from selling the eclipse. I started out as a 3g prelude owner though. ;) samms95s14se knows what i am talking about. Those are great car's arent they!

I was stationed in Japan for three years and wanted a rwd. I got a nice S13 for $1,300. Two years and about $10,000 later I totaled it. I just got back to the US and saw my shot at a nice 240 and now i am putting all my extra time into it.

i had always loved imports ever since beging of high school. from turbo all wheel dsm's to handuhs, to 300zx TT to MKIII and MKIV supras. looked into what i could possibly afford when i got my licence and discovered nissan made a light, affordable, rwd car: the 240sx of cource. i've been hooked since then.

for my first car my aunt gave me her 89' nissan hardbody pickup, i was delighted to find it had the same engine as my now favorite car... well sorta. after messing with that car for about a year and dreaming of swapping an SR20 into it (yes and SR in a pickup. its been done and its fucking amazing. dont belive me? head on over to www.nissanminis.com and search around, its well documented and a built SR into a light as hell, rwd pickup is nuts.) i was slapped in the face by missfortune. missfortune in the for of a full grown deer at 50mph. :( the hunt was on for a new car.

for about 3 months i searched and finally found a local 91 240sx hb in good condition (or so i thought).

i purchased it for $2200. 2 1/2 months later the engine blew. $2500 later i have a brand spaking new '95 s14 fully rebuilt KA24DE powerplant sitting pretty in my engine bay with just over 600 miles on it, and i couldnt be happier. :-D

i wanted a car that could drift, then price made me choose between FC and S13. non turbo car with back seats meant cheaper insurance, so i got the S13.

now i'm 25 and insurance isn't as much, so i got an FC cuz i couldn't afford to keep putting engines in my S13. how ironic is THAT?

side note: if i had driven an FC before i bought my S13, i would have stopped looking for S13 immediately.

I got my s14 because I knew s14 is the nicest looking coupe around, and thought I might try drifting eventually. And if the drifting doesn't work out...no biggie, I can't think of another car I'd rather have for the price.

had an automatic altima with alot of mods but still didnt feel right, the next wouldve had to be 5speed swap and turbo kit and that seemed too much dough. i never had owned a 2 door car before the s13 either so i guess thats another reason along with the power i can get and the handling compared to the alti.

i was flipping through super street back in 98 and i came across an article that featured a red kouki s14 that was running a hks turbo kit and i fell in love with the looks of the car. then from that point on i searched for information and found out the different years, styles, trims and etc.

I wanted an Kouki S14 when I got out of college (May of '03). Couldn't find one, ended up getting a '99 Prelude 5spd instead.......that I subsequently totaled.

Went looking for a new car, tried to find another Kouki S14, and failed. I ended up factory-ordering a 2004 WRX Sedan. I kept that for close to a year, insurance costs were killing me though, and then I finally saw the car I always wanted on autotrader:

1998 S14 LE 5spd - Silver Moss - 58k - Brand new paint/clutch/brakes/60k service done - $9800.

I jumped on it and sold the WRX for $20k (almost exactly what was left on the loan balance).

Now the proud owner of my S14, finally, and unless shxt REALLY hits the fan, I'll never sell it.

Having owned a 280ZX and then a Z32, I had planned on getting a Z33. But then I spent all of my money on a house, and couldn't afford it. I was looking at some Z32TTs, but was reluctant because I knew what a PITA they are to work on. Then I found out about the 240SX being RWD, and all the cool motor swaps. I had always assumed it was FWD. I sold my Z32 and set a $12K budget to find an S14 Kouki in good shape to do a motor swap but didn't have any luck. I found a Zenki that already had an SR20, but needed paint and body work. I bought it thinking I would just do a Kouki conversion and still end up under budget. After a month or two I grew to like the Zenki face better than Kouki. Plus my fenders and hood were about the only parts that didn't have any damage. 1.5yrs later, its looking sweet with an M-Sports kit, big FMIC and other mods. The bugdet has been shatered, but I love this hobby and can't quit wasting money on it.

In '95 I owned an FC for a year as my 1st car. Knew I needed somthing with less miles for college coming up at the time, my parents searched around. Found my old '92 with 23K miles on it. I had a choice between that and a '95 base Mustang GT. Surprising myself to this day I picked the S13 (cause I really like V8 'tangs back then). So after a couple years of driving the S13 I started to research what could be done, that began my bank accounts decline, been hooked ever since, even after the last one was totalled last year.

Back in 2001, escalating gas prices and increasing pain in the ass problems made my '78 Monte Carlo more trouble than it was worth, then some idiot offered me 3 grand for it, sold... I also had an 86 Toyota Carolla SR-5 I had bought for like 200 bucks at the time (this was when gas prices went over a dollar and we all bitched, heh) to help me with operating costs of a 350-powered chevy, but I neither cared or knew nothing about drifting and all that back then... I was always a fan of the physical appearance of S14s since I was in high school, and my best friends mom had at the time an 89 coupe, still has it... Just after the Monte Carlo was sold, the radiator in the Carolla took a shit, so my mind was made that I would replace the rad, sell the car and get something newer, what I got didn't really matter, I just needed "car." The only "mods" would have been stereo and somw wheels. I shopped around, looked at a 91 supra targa with like 60k miles on it, but the dealer was a dick, so I left it, looked at a 2001 pontiac grand am GT1, but I didn't want a 400/month car payment, picked up an auto trader and saw a 95 5-speed base model for $7800... I go and check it out, point out some things about the car to explain why it shouldn't be 7800 and I get it for 6000, drove it home that day. Sold the Carolla for $600 the next, sold my stereo out of if for 300 the following... New stereo is in the 240 by the weekend, I search the web for shit to put on the car, almost became mr big rice, then I found this site and lurked for like a year before signing up... Research research research, I now have a working plan on what I want to do with the car, but it would come to be WILDLY expensive, so planning is in order, I get the car painted and bodywork fixed, get some wheels, intake and exhaust, s13 cams and B&M shifter, ACT clutch and then cartwheel the car across a field summer 2003... Near death experience, live and learn. I bought an 89 coupe late 2004 and I'm gonna do it all over again, skipping the cartwheel part this time around.

A co-worker asked me to take a look at a rattling noise in her CDM (Canadian Domestic Market) Civic Ex(Si). When I was driving it I was so impressed with the power and light handling. About that time (2001) a bunch of my friends were gettin into tuning cars. So I started looking around for something less than 10k and AWD or RWD (with fully independant suspension). I looked at z's (too expensive), Talons/Eclipses (hard to find in good condition), Impreza 2.5RS' (rare), 3000gt/Stealth (drove a buddies- not my style). Finally settled on the 240SX and started looking for S14s. I was afraid of the pop-up headlight reliability, plus the S14 looks similar to my dream car the R33 skyline.
After looking for a year, I found one nearby with a five speed-picked her up that very night.

Had a Z31 that died and needed a good rw drive car to replace it. I saw pics of the Zenki Greddy kit and fell in love w/ it. After having the car for a couple years, I crashed the front end and decided to repair it and get the Greddy bumper. On a weird unexpected tangent, the day I was gonna order the front bumper I changed my mind and opted to get a BOMEX :eek3: front bumper...very happy w/ that decision :p

I wanted an import with potential. Didn't want the same ole' car like the Honda's and Toyota's running around and saw the 240SX Coupe and liked the style and mod-ability. Ended up getting one when I turned 16. Yes, I wanted one before I knew about drifting so you can't call me a bandwagoner.

In 2001 I needed a car for college ASAP...didn't know what the heck my car was...but as long as it ran and had power windows I was happy. I evenutally figured out it was RWD during winter time and started paying more attention to it the following year.

Used to drive a Z32 in high school. Then putted around in a 240z for a few years. I liked the comfort and refinement of the Z32 and the light feel of the 240z... so I got an S14 to get the best of both worlds.

Then sold the S14 and drove around in a Jetta for a while. Hated the euro car and got another S13. Now the S13 has been nothing but headaches ever since purchase. I kind of regret it.

Bought my Civic in 98. Built it, Raced it, Loved it. Until I rode in my then roomates S14. I always liked the body lines, but fell in love when he swapped in a S14 blacktop. From that point on I wanted one. I liked the solid feel of the car, much more solid than my old honda. Also the car had a more mature feeling to it. I ended up buying an S13 in 2002 with hopes of swapping in a redtop. Three months later I blew the Ka's head gasket. It sat around for a couple of weeks & then one day while driving I spotted an S14 for sale. I had saved up almost enough to do my swap, But the price on the S14 was too good. I ended buying the S14 & selling the S13 for more than I bought it for
(even with a blown headgasket). I've had my S14 for almost 2 years... I have no regrets!

back in 2001 my first car was an 86 maxima which my dad bought from a friend for 500 bucks... drove it for my senior year and got tired of cause it was an automatic... so i sold it before i graduated for 2000 grand... oringinally i wanted a 240 before my dad bought me the car cause my couz bf had a white s13 hb with a hicas... when i sat in it i feel in love with it, i also wanted a four cylinder to get better gas mileage, and i wanted something rwd tired of fwd cars too be different unlike many of my peer at the time with hondas.... and since i have been around nissans all my life i decided to get a 240 then another one.... also back in the dayz they weren't that popular so i figured they wouldn't get stolen like hondas would...

My brother bought his hatch in 92 and I was suppose to get it when I get when I could drive but it had been through too many accidents, couldn't hold an alignment, and engine was shot after a rebuild and too much nos....then I wanted an FC since rotaries sound so good but there aren't many in good condition around here. Finally bought my black hatchback 3 years ago, mirror image of my brother's in his garage right now, an immense upgrade from my 86 camry that I drove around for 2 years in high school.

I wanted it when the S13 was new in 93 but I could never afford it back in high school. It has always been the most popular sports car in Japan for a long time but the US model never had the same power or following.

So now I can afford the car and build it to be how it is in Japan.

couldn't find a 240z/260z, couldn't afford insurance on a 300zx, couldn't stand the size of the miata's interior, and hated my accord...so i bought a s14 (got run off the road, totalled, long story), then a s13 base model hatch (sold it to a guy in maryland), now i have a s13 hicas model...with soon to be....NO HICAS SHIT AT ALL.

oh, and i bought the s14 b/c of the way in handled....the exterior looked like ass, but it had 5lug, vlsd, abs, and decent mileage...sniff sniff....hatch owns...for now.

In 99 I left home in an 82 Toyota supra that I was going to try to get to pass smog. I then figured, that going to the DMV once a month and getting temp. registration was stupid. So I decided to look for a new car. I called my mom (she’s a ase tech) and asked her what I should get. She said " Toyota, Nissan, or Ford. I had already driven two fords at the time and didn't and never will want one. Toyota didn't have anything I really liked I thought (wasn't thinking about mr2s or newer supras), and I thought the same for Nissan. I went to a dealership was walking around saw a prelude an eclipse all the popular cars at the time, and I walked up to this car, it was the only car on the lot that I didn't know of, it was black it was a 95 it had a sunroof and it was automatic and it was a Nissan. So I read the sticker it said it was rwd and I read it twice and asked the salesman if it was really rwd. I even checked for a diff thinking there was no way. Got in took it for a test drive loved it; it was so nice, bought it a few weeks later.

Shortly there after I learned how to drive a stick, and two years ago that car was rear ended and totaled. Shortly after that I found a 95 se 5 speed, the car I wanted from the moment I learned how to drive a stick for 6500 out the door. That’s what I drive now, and now that I'm older I want a commuter car and am thinking about putting the 240 in the garage for a while.

i used to have a civic till i got my hood popped so i had to sell it dirt cheap. i didnt want to go FF anymore so i was on the look out for a nice fc but i couldnt find one in good condition and around my price range so i ended up getting a '91 SE for 1800. i got REAL lucky because i bought it from this old couple and i can tell they never raped the car. they bought the car when it came out in the 90s and the wife used to drive it.

its very rare you see a 240 here in toronto. toronto is of course civic and now a corolla nation.

hmm my friends dad had a 1996 s14 when i was around 12 years old? anyway i loved that car...had a good look, good power, well i just liked it cuz it looked pretty cool... back then i wanted an FD turbo or something along the lines of that.. after a month or so of reading about it and hearing from my friends who watched option video n all that shiz i got interested in the 240sx anyway now that it came time to get my car, i wanted a kouki model like many wanted today, unfortunately it was during the time of the "drift boom" so prices went up, so i settled for my 1989 and got a lower insurance rate on it :)

so i found one and got it...then i learned everything i possibly could about it.

this was like...3 years ago? i was just out of my sophomore year in highschool.
