I was wondering how hard is it to cut off the KA exhaust manifold flange and weld it onto the SR mani? I am going to be running a t25 on my ka and im being sent a sr manifold with the turbo and i was just curious on how hard it is to do this. I can weld them in shop class in school. Anyone have pics of this done? If i were to do this wouldnt i be able to run an SR down pipe then? Thanks ahead of time

I'd think that if the flanges could be cut and mated to a different mani like that, we'd see manifolds that are universal for the KA and SR motors.

Also, KA valve cover is definitely higher in the engine bay than KA, leading me to think that the SR exhaust outlets are lower than the KA, meaning that using the SR downpipe might not clear the firewall. There's definitely some space to work with there so you might be OK.

Also, are you a good welder because that part of a welded manifold is under a load of stress. You might as well buy a stock SR turbo location mani for your KA if you aren't an experienced welder because when that thing breaks, you are going to have to either repair it knowing that it will break again or just go out and buy a proper one. But remember this, most stainless manis that you buy crack as well so you have to take that into considerationl. They'll probably last longer than your DIY manifold if you aren't experienced in welding though.

Also, if you are a good welder, why would you be concerned about using a stock SR downpipe. Shit, you could buy one and cut it and modify it to fit if you are a good welder.

Im almost positive people have done this before. I was just curious to see how hard it is to do this, i might go with the ssautochrome mani but wanted to open my options a little without spending a lot of dough.

As for my welding experience, I wouldnt call myself an expert at it, Im not the best but im also not the worst. I dont know if i would trust my welding enough to do it my self.

The teacher is an awsome welder so i will tell him to do it. :bigok:

im no expert welder but i know it will be a tough to weld cast iron to steal or what ever the new flange is made out of..... it can be tig-ed.... and i bet your teacher can do it if he is skrilled....

also just make sure you use that exhaust to tranny braket that keeps the exhaust still.... whatever you do.. keep that on... and just to make sure... make some extra brakets to hold everything..... good luck...
