http://www.crutchfield.com/S-cjrSrtk4ewX/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=76500&I=107DB6750

amp for the speakers (i really dont know if i need this or not, but im going for good SQ over anything):
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-cjrSrtk4ewX/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=120&I=037A4004T

and one maybe two of these subs:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-cjrSrtk4ewX/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=67700&I=037AW1206T

one maybe two of these amps(depending on how many subs i buy):
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-cjrSrtk4ewX/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=130&I=037A8000T

let me know what you think/opinions and if you know of any products that i should get instead that are in the same kind of price range/quality

thanks in advance,

-glen

if you go more towards the SQ set go with a smaller sub like a 10 single if you want balance two if you want to have it boom when necessary.

the interior amp seems a little low compared to your sub amp may want to bump it up to a 100 x 4 instead of a 50 x 4 it will give you better sonic quality on the lower volume and will be able to balance the power going to the subs

All the Audiobahn I've heard sounded like it was trying to fart out sound. Bleh.

yeah most of them ive heard sound like crap at high volume but decent enough for a sub. if you want good bass just get the aluminum.titanium looking audiobanh thats all silver and a plain cone that says audiobanh in white. i dont know the model number so yeah. but those are real good. bump real hard when you power them just right.

Audiobahn & Pioneer (with the exception of hteir SPL comp level stuff) is GREAT gear!

FOR ME TO POOP ON! :D

Anything below top of the line for either brand is pretty craptastic... that's how those brands work. They make a name for themselves with their pro level stuff, but the majority of their line is fodder to wipe yer booty wit :o

i also don't know anything about sound, so today I went and bummed around an audio shop to listen to speakers. infinity, mb quart, and that other diamond brand sound really good. boston accoustics was also nice. pioneer speakers were cheap, but didn't seem as good as the others. polk was about the same as pioneer. i'm getting a set of infinity kappas 63.5i on ebay for like 60 dollars.

i've also listened to a friend's xplod subs with his xplod amp. they sound nice, but can't really compare them to anything else. they get real loud too, like hurting your chest loud but still clean. all of this is just my average joe opinion on speakers and stuff, i'm no expert.

sound is too much money, i'm still trying to save for my coilovers.

My suggestion would be just get something that sounds good at just loud enough to cover road noise. Having a system that could bump is nice but it wears off and you realize you didn't need it in the first place. Then you wish you would have spent it on coilovers.

A better question is:
How much are you willing to spend? ;)

That's the key.

ok ok, so now im realizing that i should do this right the first time...

since it is going to cost me more, im thinking about doing it in steps. first step is HU and speakers, then the sub and amp... (i still cant decide on what headunit though...)

ok heres what ive been looking at now, let me know what ya think... ive read a lot of just great reviews on all these, but id like for some of you to critique

speakers F&R:
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=11421

speakers amp: (would just one of these be good for the F&R?)
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=11726

sub:
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=12150

sub's amp:
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=11724

so let me know what ya think, plus id like to stay with one brand (some weird thing i like to do...)

edit: i like the looks and features of this HU, what do you all think?

JL. I like them a lot. The w7 is an awesome sub that is very clean and can still get to a decent volume. The XR series is very clean and natural sounding. That amp would work fine for them. I have a JL 500/1 and some 10" Xtant X1044's. I should have just bought one cause they're VERY heavy.

crioten

there is a cure for heavy stuff, make more go fast parts!!

but seriously, thanks for the insight...

kandyflip445

Yeah I know. But my "too heavy" thinking is more for the suspension.

I work at a car audio shop in Maine, Blaupunkt headunits and speakers are indestructible. We havent had any come back for returns in a year. Directed/Orion (same company) subs and amps are louad, clean and durrable. Infinity makes good stuff too, except for the referance series, thats junk.

JL Audio for everything but a head unit. Just rig up a MP3 player and XM reciever instead of a headunit.

I'd recommend Alpine or Kenwood Excelon headunits.

I don't recommand JL for everything. First of all for car audio. Most of the stuff that you get at BB or CC is crap(note Most). The truely good audio components are only to be found online. Check major online car audio forum would be the best bet in decision making.

here is my result after a few weeks of research.

head unit I recommand Alpine, pioneer, eclipse
I just brought an Alpine 9830 but if you got the money you should go for like a 9835 or 9855

Then speakers I would strongly recommand Focal or CDT. For CDT I would suggest the HD-62 and for Focal... mostly their high end would be good. Focal is a bit hard to setup right while CDT is really easy to get a good output going without messing too much with where to put the mids, etc.

The amps... If you want visual then I can't say anything here. They go from $100-1000. For best bang for the buck I would go for profile or avionixx.

Subs, here is where gets most interesting. element design (ed) has a very high reputation, as well as cascade (hope I spelled right). also soundsplinter (www.soundspliter.com). I know an audio dealer and he recommand those Soundspliter rLi, to me over what he is selling. (we got to know each other after a long chat).

This is my research for the last week or so at forum sounddomain.com. I am doing a system on my car myself. I have decided on Alpine 9830, CDT HD-62 comps, Profile amps 1200, 2x soundsplinter rLi sub, and profile sub amps 2000,

comes out around 1200. Nice and simple, gets the job done. If you need dealer I know a guy who can hook up with stuff for cheaper than retail price shipped. He is highly known at SoundDomain. Give me an AIM at Dfansclub or PM me if I am not on.

Focals are badass but their price is HIGH for the good ones. I like ED subs, the flat cone ones though I dunno if they make those anymore.

Check out MSN.com "shopping" and look up car amplifiers and I found all my amps and sub for cheap thru that.

the amps and sub are really nice, the components and the headunit i think you could do a lot better. as far as headunits i suggest either the pioneer premier line or the apline higher end. as far as the components i think that the mb quarts are some really good sq speakers

I'd recommend Infinity all the way, I had a full Infinity setup in highschool and I loved it.

Buddy of mine had an Eclipse 10" sub in a small custom box and an Alpine headunit in his STI and it was really nice. Not sure what brand amp he had, but that's how I plan on going. You wouldn't think a 10" would sound that good.

Less weight as well if you plan on doing track/strip.

i had a strokers/rockford fosgate/kenwood/phoenix-gold set-up..worked great. really depends on what your shooting for. if you just want something to hear inside the car...i'd go with an alpine unit, with phoenix gold components, eclpise/mb quarts subs, and possibly a jl amp. you dont have to have all or any of the same brand pieces of a system for it to sound good....mixig and matching works too....like me the strokers and rockford amp and i was able to take out jl audio systems (of which comprised of the w7's and mono-1000 amps) you just have to hook it up right and have a well bult box utilizing the space you have, to be able to give best sound quality. the box design and design of the car space has a lot to do with what set-up you should use and how to actually set it up.
