I got mine from www.autornd.com (http://www.autornd.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=240SX8994SUSTEIN) too for a pretty good price. I believe they give discounts to Zilvia members.

Here's some advice, DON'T.

And save up for quality SPL ones, seriously ends are stock replacements...

Yep. I have the tein inner + rod end, and if I had done the research properly I wouldn't have gotten the rod ends. The SPL's look really nice too, if they were out at the time I bought the teins I probably would have gotten those instead. Oh well.

Also, peak performance now has an inner tie rod with built in spacer if you want to really get some crazy steering angle.

Well tein has that additional 6mm spacer, its good enough. But kuah said on FA that it is not ideal for street nor Roadracing. It provides a benfit for those drifting kids though.

Personally I'm a grip guy and having been told this I will remove in the near future, the bumpsteer is fucking insane. I was in need of tierod ends that could be threaded as mine were held by only 2 or 3 threads and the cotter pin, so i couldn't wait for the SPL ones. And these were local, and i had to once agin obligue with my given situation.

So let me get this straight the outer not the tie rod which is on the steering rack is only a stock replacement for the Teins?

The Tein outer tie rod ends are just stock S14 replacements.

The Tein inner tie rods are similar to stock S14 inner tie rods except the Tein ones are a little thicker in some places (so a little stronger), and they give you a little 6mm spacer for "more angle".

how do the SPL ends stack up to say..Kazama ends?

ZK
04-12-2005, 02:43 PM
I have some RG (Racing Gear) ones from Japan... I have no idea how they compare to the Teins but they're 2x the thickness of the stock ones. No additional steering angle as far as I can tell.

Damn i want pillowball tie rod ends maybe Kazama or KTS. Too expensive though. I might go with those spl ones though.

04-12-2005, 03:22 PM

Lets see:

Kazama uses an aluminum buckle, we use a steel buckle.

Kazama uses a 12mm steel rod end (pillowball), we use a 5/8" (~16mm) chromoly rod end. You can also install seals on our rod ends.

Kazama shank has ~.5" of adjustment, we have 1" of adjustment.

One thing you have to note on tie rod ends, the stiffest isnt always the best if you're just a beginner. If you hit something, the weaker point (tie rod/tie rod end) and other parts of the multilink are going to take the impact and more than likely break or bend.

If you have a rock solid piece there, the force is going to get transferred to a much more expensive piece (your steering rack). I'd rather break my tie rod ends than the steering rack...i'm no expert at driving.

A lot of people want the stiffest shiet out there, but don't know the implications of running that kind of gear, and what it can potentially do to their chassis.

With that said, the TEIN's are just OEM type replacements, and they are proprietary (ie: end only works with tein tie rod, tein tie rod only works with tein rod end). Most of the other ones available are better than those and you can use them with the stock tie rods.

i like tein tie rods, havent failed on me yet. and by using a washer or the "spacer".... (how gay) you can actually get a deeper turning angle. just hope ur t/c rods can take the abuse if ur drifting haha

I think the Teins are good enough.. Even people talk about how thin the tein tension rods are compared to those excessively bulky units offered by competing companies.. I think Tein knows what thier doing and designed the pieces to be stronger (to a certin extent) over the stock pieces while not being too expensive.. I've yet to hear anyone bust any tein pieces... If you keep busting tie-rods or tension rods, your obiously doing something wrong. and if you do, and replace those with stronger items and stop busting em, that means something else is taking teh abuse.

Racks are $50 at Pick n Pull, before core.

Takes about an hour and a half, two-ish to do it on the ground with a floor jack.

SO I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Go SPL w/ Z32 inners (SPL outers wont work with anything else), KAZAMA/KTS outer pillowball w/ TEIN inner, or get IKEYA Formula.. those things look HUGE :P

We do offer a "shorty" version of our outer tie rod ends that will work with any S14 length/thread tie rods (ie. Tein, etc) :)
