some a$$hole hit me today and ran. my gas door pretty much was dented in and i couldnt use the latch to open it. i have to pull it from inside the trunk and then pry it to open it. what i want to know is what is the best way to go about and fix this. i read up about this in the forums and people were being charged $1000-2500 to get this fixed (cutting, new fender, welding, paint). so should i just get some widebody rear fenders (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7967237083&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT) or should i just leave it alone? do you guys think that those fenders will fit fine over the damage i have? or will it not work for the damage done to my car? help me out with some input and knowledge please. i was able to make the gas door straight but everything around and behind it was crushed in so theres no way i can just pull it. or is the best way to claim hit and run with the insurance company? i dont know much about it and how it works. my baby needs to get better soon!

doing a wide fender will fix everything around the gas tank. but you said you cant even open it with the latch, so having wide body will wont fix the gas door problem

damn that sucks.
its not a major dent, but it's not a super simple fix either.
maybe try to tap it out very gently from the inside of the trunk. you dont have to make it look nice... just bend enough shit to get the gas door open.

Go to a shop and ask them how much to repair/refinish.
Ask your friends if they know a guy who does bodywork.
Or, since you're in SoCal.. go find some cutty Mexicans that do bodywork.
Seriously. They do good work on the cheap, so if money is an issue...
Otherwise, go find a friend w/ a hookup at a shop and see whassup.
As for insurance... do you have full coverage? Cus if you don't, you're pretty much SOL... one-way (liability) does not cover that.

i have full coverage. so should i claim hit and run and does anyone know how this process works? im still kinda tripped up about $1500 to fix it when the car itself cost me $1400. what a world...

rear quarter panels are the worst places to get hit at. it's a piece of the body that can't be removed.

yah i was about to say 1500 fix.... 500 deductible... screw that...the ductible i mean.. its fixable... just need a new gas door and lock mechanism... but the qp might be repairable... for a new qp its very expensive work.... its up to u to report it to the insurance company....... see if a mexican shop would do it for around 600... cash... talk to the workers there... best bet to get a deal is dont go thru a shop if your trying to save money... cash talks..

man you guys are all on crack, I could get that fixed and the whole car painted for $1500 at a reputable shop here in Los Angeles, reefer its up to you. You should not read on the forums how much people says it costs to get fixed you should go to some shops and find out.
If you want a hook up with a paint job let me know .

yah but if he gets a widebody he can hack the fuck out of it and nobody will see anything, and if there is anything, people will be distracted by his 275 tires to notice.

I got hit today too, some Mitsu Galant slammed into the back of my pristine Silver Moss 98 S14.
GRRRRR
Anyway, I'm not at fault, so I get a shiny new bumper, and probably a new exhaust too, as that got bent a little bit. No SERIOUS damage done to my car, so it's ok with me. My bumper had some scratches on it anyway, so now I get a nice perfect new one.

i know. like i said the wide body will fix everythign around the gas tank, but look he still has a problem with opening the tank door, and a widebody wont make it any easier for him to open the thing.

wasnt exactly sure but are the rear widebody fenders interchangeable with the hatch and coupe?

No they are different parts. If you want a widebody panel that cover the most amount of area, go for the chargespeed ones. All the other panels I looked at didnt fit as snug or have as much coverage.

Hammer and dolly from the inside, tap out the edges to line back up, visit the junkyard to get another door and hinge. Best angle is from the inside. Did this on a ford thunderbird 2 weeks ago and made $500. Of course, there is more to it than that. Master body work with H & D...;)
