Well heres the deal, i was talking to some co-workers and i was telling them how i hear this noise like solid metal hitting solid metal, not loud but every so often. He asked me if i see metal flakes in my oil when i change it. I told him that i did, not a lot, but a good amount.(i made a post about this maybe a year ago) He said to explain the color, and i told them they were bronze looking. From his expierence he said that it was rod knock and i should replace them. Has anyone on here ever replaced the rod bearings with the motor still in the car? The bearings itself is about $30. Just wondering how hard it would be to change with the motor on the car still.

Does this situation point directly to the rod bearings?

It would be very hard i imagine changing the rod bearings, possibly impossible, you need to take the whole motor out and rip out the bottom end.

From what i hear, you can just get away with taking off the oil pan and unbolting the rods.

that would be REALLY hard though, cuz you'd have to reach around the crank to get the upper half of the bearing on the rod. not fun to do while the motor is in the car. unless you have a lift, then it's a little less un-fun.

You need a rebuild. Something is out of spec and you'll just gaul out the new set.

Well what caused the problem to start with. Was it over-revving, no regular maitenence, low oil, overheated? Possible a different problem...

If there is beaing damage then your connecting rod blade end will have a bore in it shaped like and egg. Maybe not noticeable but it will be out of spec. Also your crankshaft connecting rod journals will be damaged.

Dang thats sucks bj. Was it like this when i was in your car? my friend at school spun a bearing on his car and had to take apart the whole block. From what i know of it its basically that. Taking it all apart to get to the crankshaft and the rod bearings. If your rod bearings is grinding most likely your crankshaft will need to be machined too. I think it would be best to check everything on your bottom end. You might want to be on the safe side since you have been riding around on it for sometime. Sorry to hear homie.
