getting killed on the road

im sorry guys, i know most of you are faithful to the KA engine, i still am but not as much as before.  i keep losing on the road... i raced my friends Echo on the highway and he raped me!!!!!  yes yes i know, VVT-i, but still, it has like what, 100hp!! he went right by me when i hit 182km/h mark (speed limit).  

im thinking about getting an MSD ignition system and Hotwires.  would that be an OK mod other than intake, exhaust, etc?   another option is saving up for an SR20 engine since my KA has like so many mileage on it.

I don't know,  I have a single cam KA and I personally don't have any problem with it on the road.  It might just be your car.  Its not as powerful as my SR but I like the torque that it has and the NA response and I've never been beaten unless I was going at high speed where I can't hang because I have the stock ecu.

ignition all by itself on a stock motor wont make you power it might restore any lost horsepower

I've driven a Echo with 6K miles, and I own a '92 240sx with 100K miles.  There is no comparison - the 240sx is much faster!

Here's the Echo's 0-60.... Carpoint.com (http://carpoint.msn.com/Vip/Heraud/Toyota/ECHO/2002S.asp)  Hmmm, 0-60 in 8.9 seconds with 5 speed.... maybe I'm wrong.

Also since you said you have a high mileage car, have you had it properly maintained and tuned?

I just changed my gas filter, and I say my 0-60 has improved by 1-2 seconds.

HOLY GAY! I have driven an Echo 5 spd and uh, no. Maybe if he had a Celica GTS pushing him! Hummm are you sure it said Echo and not Supra? lol Oh well

BTW im not dissing on you. i have the 5-speed and he has the auto.... im not saying he is beating me off the line, hes just beating from like 70mph and on. &nbsp;i think im a pretty good driver, its most likely my cars problem &nbsp;seeing how it has 254,000km (158,000miles). &nbsp;i should go get a complete tune up. &nbsp;i never actually thought of the gas filter, i should check that out too.

You shouldn't even need a car to beat an echo, I think you could do it on foot.

Have your car looked at, because it's gotta have a problem.

I've only been beaten on the highway once and that was buy a 300m. &nbsp;That guy totally owned me.

s13 passion-dude...there's something wrong with your car..or he has nitrous in his echo or something. highway is where I feel faster. my 80-100+ is where the KA's torque is really shown. normally, my friends reactions are "dude, you go from 80 to 100 real quick!" I mean, take off is okay, with the torque...but 80+ is where I feel I"m faster then most cars.

as far as speed limiter....you're kinda SOL on that thing..unless you want to kill your speedo or get an ECU. Although, I can't believe the echo can go past 120. if you know who it is...ask him if he'd done anything to it....engine swap or something. I find that hard to believe.
as far as your car...check the intake filter...an after market intake will definately help. the stock exhaust really sucks on our 240's...so that'd definately help...also, check your fuel filter and injectors....maybe something's clogged, and you're not getting enough fuel at high gears. either way....even a SOHC should be able to stomp a lot of cars...especially an Echo...also, were you "driving" downhill? I mean, what's the weight on the echo?

Not once did it ever occur to me that I should waste my gas in trying to race an echo....might have to rething that now......Muwhahahahaha....NOT.

I'd seriously question my driving skills if I was beaten by an echo...

that takes guts to say you're getting beat by an echo, at least he's honest! if you're saying you're getting beat when you hit your speed limiter, then big deal, you're getting passed as your engine is shutting off. but if he's pulling from 70 mph, you better get your car checked.
