Has anyone lost their set of keys or broken them? I have only one key and it it is extremely worn down. I can't even get a copy made of it. I've gone to the dealer and they told me they cannot make a new key on my S14 without a good key to copy. Can a locksmith make a key without a key to copy from and only the ignition cylinder?

for S13, all you need is some special key code from the glove box, then take that to a nissan dealer for them to make you a new key. I'm not sure about S14, but you could check your glove box anyway.
Sorry I'm not much help :bash:

My key is pretty worn out also, I have to have the key in about half/less than halfway in order to open the door and I have to mess with it to open it. BTW where would I find that special key code in the glove box?

I've already tried that and they don't do it with the older cars all they did was attempt to make a "better" copy of the original. It works better than my original key but it still has the same problem stated in my previous post.

BTW, would this work on the doors, hatch, and ignition?

if you really wanted, you could go and take out all the lock cylinders (doors, trunk, ignition) and go to a locksmith and have him make a new key and rekey all the cylinders. this way you wouldn't have to worry about your old worn key.
my s14 key was also very worn. just took it to a key place and told them to stfu and do the best they could to copy it.

Man that is really smart considering that your VIN is raight there in plain view on your dash. All you would have to do is pick out the car of your choice, pay a couple bucks for the key, and you get A NEW CAR :madfawk:

Anyone know where the # is in the glovebox took a look at it last night couldn't figure it out. All I saw was how many people the car can hold and stuff like that.

I went to the dealership to get a new key becuase the one I have was worn down. They said that Nissan does not have record to match the vin with a key untill 96.

So I can just go to the dealer to get a new key since I have a 96 S14? How much did it cost you?

My keys beginning to get worn out. You have to push it in to the ignition, then pull it out a bit for you to turn it. LOL

Wish someone could tell me this "special key code" from the glove box so I can get my new key made.
I got all new keys, ignition, door locks, and trunk lock from Midway Parts Team for $200. Depending on how much a locksmith will charge, you may want to just order all new stuff.

ordering all new will save you some trouble in the future
someone tried to hotwire my car and put a screwdriver in the ignition and broke the damn thing... cost me $140 to get a locksmith to come out and fix it... AAA paid 60 so it was 80 out of pocket for me... but I had to do because I coudnt move the car

just a little thing i thought you guys might like to know, when i was at a car show last fall, someone had locked his keys in his s13 and asked to see my key. i was like wtf? why? well he used my key to unlock his driver door. he told me that hes done it before with other s13 keys. he said that the locks get used in s13's and sometimes other s13 keys will work to unlock the door of another s13. is that weird or what? This kinda makes me worry about leaving my s13 in parking lots for a long time.
i just picked up a 95 that has only a single key...that sucks...
looks like it's time for keyless entry and a new ignition cylinder and key...

it cost so much because they had to travel to you and you didn't take the stuff out. if you take out the lock cylinder and go to the guy, its cheap. I knew the locksmith and got mine done for free (i had everything removed), then went to a dollar store (family dollar, hah) and had two copies of the key made.

They can get the key code from the VIN, but they are supposed to ask for proof of ownership & a picture ID.
The key code is like 4#'s that they look up in a book to determine the pattern to set the cutter for. If you dont have the sticker in the glovebox (or it is wrong) It should also be punched into the passenger door lock cylinder.
That's the way it work's for Honda's anyway, but we can look up back to like 1990.
