I was working on 240 last night and ended needing to go to walmart. I barrowed my roommates 91 civic hb(my old car ). Well I notice how much tighter the shifter is on that car. like it doesnt wiggle around a lot like my 240. I plan on putting a short shifter in but I dont think that will be the end to all the play in my shifter. Any ideas here?

Thanks

Usually loose shifters in the 240 is due to the plastic busing being worn down on the peice that goes in the tranny. Your new SS should have a new bushing and will remove that play.

Actually getting a short shifter will most defitinely get rid of most of the "slop" you speak of. The 240 shifter in stock trim has tons of play in it from the factory....have no clue why. I have the OBX shifter in my car and have had it for close to eight months now and love it. The reduce in throw is there and the slop is almost completely gone. It's well worth the $75 I paid for it.

The Nismo shifter is just a solid piece so don't get that one with asperations of getting reduced throw. The C's shifter is pretty nice as well as the B&M, but for costwise I'd say the Pilot Motorsports/OBX is the best out there....IMO

Thanks guys. I have been looking at the OBX and B&M really desciption wise I cant find a difference. Anyone know the diff between the two.
Also I have a contact in japan(Getting me a bride bucket ) and he is seeing what they use for a short shifter. I post his reply when I get it.... that is if anyone cares.

i'd say the B&M is definately better quality, but even i have the OBX. for the money i'd say the OBX is worth the savings

I got my OBX SS from PDM-racing.com. its worth every penny but I am going to upgrade to the B&M in a few months. I say if you can afford the B&M the get it, do it right the first time. But If you want something cheap (price) that will make the shifting a bit better, get the OBX.

Why you upgrading? What is the true benifet? Anyone here have the B&M that can verify that its better then the OBX?

Not exactly sure on the differences of the two shifters (B&M and OBX). The B&M does come with a replacement shifter plate......the plate on the top of the tranny held in by six bolts. Some have said the throw is a little shorter than that of the OBX, but I personally, have never felt the B&M.

There has also been complaints of a loud buzzing noise in the B&M....just a heads up...not sure on the cause of it though.

Then there is always the "spinning" issue of the OBX, but it's really not all that big of a deal. The top part of the shifter is a seperated piece from the bottom piece and tends to twist on the rubber piece in between the two halves...big deal...haven't even noticed all that much:)

Hope this all helps!!

I just spoke with Ken at enjuku and he said that OBX has redesigned their shifters, and they look much more sturdy to him. (He has one of the older ones already in his car) They have them in stock right now. Just thought I would let you guys know.

yes, I can. I used to have an obx. B&M's fit and finish is a lot better (bushing doesnt even fit right on the obx). I've had a problem with the threads not being right on the obx, thus I switch to B&M, other than the noise, it shifts beautifully, and the throws are even shorter.

Grant did you get yours via enjuku? Was it enough improvement to justify the cost? How bad is the noise....

OOoOO ya b&m site sucks.... Not saying there product is bad... just site.

Everyone will agree that the B&M is worth the extra money, being the more solid one of the two. A lot of people have complained about the OBX breaking under higher stress. I don't know how their new design is, hopefully somewhat better than the old, but I wouldn't take my chances.

My stock shifter is also really sloppy, but it doesn't bug me enough to change it on my otherwise stock car.

Also, C's is an awesome piece, I'd look into that as well.

It's a direct drop-in.

The resonation problem with the B&M is because it's a full billet aluminum shifter plate, and when that's bolted directly onto the tranny, it resonates. I was just thinking about this though... and what about fabbing some type of gasket to go in between? It wouldn't have to be thick or anything, just something to get rid of a little of that vibration. Anyone else think it could work?
