So I picked up a new car today, it is going to be my project/track car. It is a 1986 AE86 Hatchback, with 140K original miles, mint body in a metallic silver color, black meshies with polished lip, some eibach springs, intake, exhaust, etc. I am going to probably be putting some different wheels on it and I am also looking into some coilovers as well to start off with. I took some pictures tonight but they are really dark, so I will put some other ones on tomorrow after work.

I am not a N00b by any means but thanks, I wanted another 240 Coupe but I had no luck finding one and got a great deal on the hatch. I owned a 240 prior to them being the ultra JDM tytness. Also, I am curious how is this the wrong forum?

You actually have to steer corollas...
You can't just let go of the wheel and let caster take care of the rest. ^_^;;

its not as easy as everybody thinks. less to no power, a little on the light side, and short ass wheelbase...but fortunately, nothing a few mods cant take car of...140K? nice find

It was $2K, so thats not a bad price. Considering SOHC 240's that are beat are going for a lot more around here. I found a nice S14 for cheap but the guy flaked on me. I personally have slid the car around a little and I think its pretty fun. I am not a super serious drifter I just want a car thats fun to drive on and off the track. I was talking to a guy the other night that swapped a KA into his 86, I was thinking that would be pretty cool to do, but who knows. Pictures on their way tonight.
i needed ALOT more momentum than anything to get my hachi sideways... that would be nice to have a modded ka24de in an ae86, enough power for anything in that car

SR5 or GTS?
matlock
03-28-2005, 11:29 AM
Sr5, but has GTS LSD and I got an extra GTS LSD. I wanted a GTS but I couldn't really affod to be picky. Basically i bought the car as a mint shell with some minor parts on it and It is going to be a prjoect. I am the 3rd owner of the car I purchased it from a guy that babied it and he bought it from the original owner who was a 70 year old man. I would like to do this KA swap, but more than likely I will just pratice with the car as is (I know the 4AC is weaksuace, but im not super drift master yet). Then I will probably swap in a 4AG or I have found a "Power pack" by paradise that is supposed to get 40-50HP out of the 4AC which would be nice.

I'll never understand why people buy SR5's for more then 500 bucks.
Redtops are 300 bucks so swap it already.
Buy a fuel cell. Cheaper then a GTS tank.
The brakes are a little tricky to find but...

I bought it for more than $500 because it is well worth it. Plus the 240 market here is ruined plus I have the money and i'd like to learn about a different type of car.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was thinking the same thing. I'm glad you like the car, but I don't get why people love those ugly cars so much. Ok it's rwd, but thats it in my mind. It's just a corolla

$2k is nothing to pay for another car considering most of you people pay that for a set of wheels & tires.. though 2k is a little on the expensive side for an SR5, ive seen GTS go for 4 even 5k. It looks and sounds like its in good condition, good luck with it man.

I dunno what planet some of you people are from, or where you're getting you deals on cars...
Assuming this is an ADVERTISED CAR, i.e. autotrader, a forum, blah blah blah, and not some dude the guy knew, $2k is an excellent price for an AE86 hatch in good aesthetic condition, it almost doesn't matter whether it's an SR5 or not, you're paying for a top-notch shell and the ability to drive that top-notch shell home from the place of purchase.
Nice car man, post some more shots (interior, engine bay, etc...).

Actually the AE86 is pretty pricey. If you can find one in good condition be prepared to pay. I've seen lightly modified ones in excellent condition for 4-6K with more nicely done up ones anywhere up to 10K.
In Japan they even sell for up to 10K.
Demand > Supply
But then this is for a GTS...

Thanks a lot everyone I don't really care if some say I overpaid for the car but I think I got a good deal on it and I like the car and just because it is an SR5 doesn't mean it will stay that way. More pictures will be on their way soon!

1st way to much for SR5, not going to be doing any drifting w/ 4ac, ka corolla is nasty, still not easy to drift "WITH JUST A FEW MODS", get rid of that muffler.

what do we drift with then? all those ugly looking fwd cars companies make? and dont forget cheaply affordable rwd cars, which they dont make (except the miata).
