View Full Version : are D2 coilovers good?

I keep hearing mixed things about these coilovers. Some say they are good, some say they suck, others just talk crap and think they suck b/c they are not expensive. I have D2s myself, but only the defective batch. It is my understanding that the replacement shocks make it ride much better, unfortunately I do not have them in yet but intend to. So in other words, can anyone with any credibility tell me if D2s suck or not? And why if they are good or suck. Don't give a stupid reason like "oh they suck because it isn't expensive or known like Tein!" Or "they suxors b/c they are purple and therefore ghey :keke: ."

they suck because they have bad build quality and crappy error tolerances, and linear shock valving

teins are not that good either, just decent bang for the buck
whats your point
some people think d2's suck, some think they are great
or do you just want us to say its a good product so you can feel good about buying a lowend product

No, I just want to know if they are good coilovers or not, how long I can expect them to last/perform compared to other coilovers. Just wondering why some say D2s suck, and if I should just sell mine and get SPL KTS's or something

correct me If I am wrong, but SPL KTS come out of the same factory as D2 from what I have heard. I would seriously wonder about them being any better if thats the case.

Im not sure if thats true since kts have 15 way clicking adjustments and D2's are 36 way non clicking. I have d2's and my impression is that they are underdampened, they bounce a lot, and mine clunk which is somewhat annoying. I couldnt imagine going with their stiffer spring rates since its underdampened at the stock 7/5 spring configuration. I've had them for about 6 months and my right drivers side front one seems like its already blown.

ive had my d2s for about 6-7 months now, haven't had any problems with them. They do tend to make a little bit of noise in the cold, but other than that no problems. Mine dont feel underdamped at all (compared to the numerous KTS, Megan Racing, SF-1s, and HE's ive ridden on anyway). Ive got 9/7s on mine, and its not bouncy at all. I love em, and would definitely recommend em for the $$

the noise in the cold, you guys got the defective batch. D2 is issuring a recall on them, so you can get replacement shocks. I heard the replacements are much better. call North American D2 at 919-383-5000

there are enough bad reviews on d2's that its safe to say they're not good. There may like em but majority of them seem to hate them *cough*me*cough*

Well i guess i have a defective batch, but from what i hear, mine aren't as bad as some of the others. I will pursue getting new shocks (from d2) and see if that solves anything, but other than that, no complaints from me. If i had it to do over again, i PROBABLY would get KTS for about 200 more though. If i had lots of money, id get arogosta's.

Its too bad that you have to pay $50 per shock to have it replaced under warranty, and you can only replace the known blown shock.
