I got out of the car thing about 2 years ago when everything for the SR was skyrocketing (Price wise).....
I bid on a DOHC wirring harness (ebay) for about 70 bux (Max id pay for a harness), because im swapping from my KA24E to the KA24DE (to build the Single cam for boost)....I bought a 95 DE for 550 with a 93 ecu and tranny (spare) and a 91 gauge cluster.....
So i figure my max bid is in the clear, HAHAHAHAHA nope......The DOHC harness went for 102 bux plus 15 dollars shipping....Is this what i am to expect to pay for a KA harness these days?
I mean I know the KA-T is the new thing due to less availability for quality red/blacktops but damn.....
So in short, what should i pay for a DOHC KA harness?

You're totally wrong.
The new thing is not the KA, it's hamsters. Hamsters on wheels. I only feed my hamster rice, so my "engine" is JDM tyte. I have 1 hp (hamsterpower). I am teh pwnzrz.

I'm just kinda taken back by the price of a ka harness, I bought a harness from dude off here back in "02" for an SR for like 100 bux.......Oh well
Guess thats what you get for leaving the scene =(.....

KA's won't be a dime a dozen for long...
And I agree.....The SR has had its glory, and as the human race often works we have exhausted the resources of quality SR's......Pretty soon the KA will take the place of the dino-L24 (dont quote me if im wrong but the 240Z)....
Very rare to even find a blown one.....
And ive noticed i sold my KA when i did my SR for like 200 bux with 90K on the clock, and now im paying 550 for another....=)
Go figure =)
i bet ppl are geting replacement harnesses for their hacked SR harnesses
SR=>KA swap is coming up

hahah
no one whose wasted money on the SR would ever go back to a KA unless they seriously fucked their SR, the SR can go further, all there is to it.

hahahhahha 240z owners replacing their L24's with KA24's hahahahhaha think not!! the L24 spins like a SR not like a KA24. It was a very revvy 6 cylinder. I know I owned way to many 240z's . No you will see all kinds of stuff in 240z's because they no longer fall under smog laws so the sky is the limit. We are shortly going to be installing a RB in a guys 240z for him. I have also seen some nice SR swapped 240z's as well.

I dont think so. Just parts that can be used with the sr. Although prices are going up for ka engines.

I paid 100 for my harness but i didnt have to pay shipping because i got it right down the street at the most bad ass junkyard in the history of junkyards. Its called mazda-nissan heaven. i have been in there so much, last time i was there the guy let me walk out with some sensors because he was real busy and there was a long line to check out. im there like 3 or 4 times a week.

i dont think a KA should be compared to a Z's engine... L24 ....... maybe a z24 thats pretty close.. I6 L engines are compared to the rb's..IMO but oh well z24/12valve head hybrid that would be this shiet...
old school nissan engines have the exhaust and intake ports on the same side... except for the z series... lets put the 1hp hamster next to a full size tire and have them drag race... if the hamster gets squashed by the car tire its ur fault for poor engineering.. ahhahahahhaha

KA is just another choice... just like Rb20 and rb25 and rb26 and vg30....
I one that likes more more motor choices for our 240's

I think you read that wrong.......Re-read.......I said that its going to take the place of the dino-L24 as in we now have really old cars, we now have a hard to find engine such as the L24.......Nothing worse than jumping to conclusions there peppy.....
And as far as comparing it to the L24 as in pound for pound, I dont, refer to above statement to understand where i was going with that....
In short nostalgia isnt too far away......Pretty soon we will be the decrepid old has beens that wont let a classic go away, we have become the very ppl we fought so hard to prove wrong by saying a 4cyl. could hang with a V8 and other reasons (fill in you blank here__________)
Its just funny how time is catching up with me from 1996 to present day and im still stuck on the love for the "S" chassis, back when it was cool just to own a 240 or dream about the first time someone would do something sick with it has passed and we now have RB powered 240's running around, something i never dreamed would happen back in the day.....
Nostalgia is upon me i guess im old =(

For some reason I cant let go of the single cam KA, it surprises me every day...I would normally opt for the DOHC but the single cam was the first KA i ever owned, and its a work horse...She seems to come at me with this attitude of "Im on the verge of death-So kick the throttle and do it some more" Now im starting to sound like a harlequin novel for the KA.....
Whats your oppinions on the single cam KA? Good and bad welcome i dont take offense to oppinion :)

for what I use the car for I would like more power but the torque of the ka is sufficient it actually works quite well on the track and in the mountains. I can keep up with sr cars easily during a drift I just carry more corner entry speed and keep it floored almost the whole time instead of lots of modulation its more fun that way for me I like lots of throttle. Mine just has intake I think with headers, pulleys, exhaust, decent clutch and lightwieght flywheel it should be a lot more fun. btw I have a lightwieght one piece driveshaft that makes a huge difference and I run lightwieght 16's they help also :) but yea if I had the money I might roll the sr but right now the ka is a beast and keeps up with my skill level. I think it is helping me be better than if I had 400hp.

single cam ka's are very popular among the oldschool datsun guys who are building 240s'. They like them better than DOHC's because they know them better. They are good engines, but the DOHC's are technically better. Valvetrain is much more sophisticated and therefor there is more potential. But 99.9% of people modding ka's aren't serious enough to get the full potential out of a sohc, so it's fine for most.

Yeah I feel yah.....Im no noob to Nissans nor wrenching, ive had my SR it was fun, i sold it and i'll never own another one again...Nothing against it it was just a little boring after a while....I like the factr that the Single cam is (well depending on how early your KA was built and a few other variants) a stock 8.6:1 with potential for a lot of power (not stock of course) but all in all i like the cams ive seen for it, the way a single cam can be aggresive and still retain that sunday drive attitude with 1 cam....I realize that the head flow and desighn is arcaic compared to a twin cam but in all fairness ive seen the brutal oil starvation of a single cam and it runs for miles with little oil...VS. its big brother the twin cam, starve it for oil and you'll be walking to work for the rest of the week....Needless to say that technicly the bottom end of a twin cam and a single cam are identical, but yet retain some differences such as single cams less prone to fried rings vs the twin cam (maybe thats in my head, but i dont see many twin cams make it past 180K on the ticker and my single cam dogged to no end by me, punished like its a one legged red headed step child with freckles, making power to this day as good as the day it was bought off the showroom floor (by my dad) in 88 (its an 89) and its got around 210K on the ticker.....I just feel the single cam is a stronger (more durable) candidate for my purpose.....I just feel safer with the single cam, my 95 blew up at wow i think it was maybe 160K she was babied and then decided she wanted to throw a rod at 60MPH on the I-state...=(
To keep it simple Im old school, ive been fiddling with new technology mainly the SR20VE (yes VE) and the QR25DE (which has much potential in the right hands with a good budget) and the new VQ35DE as well as some single cam boosted honda's and im not too impressed....It seems the performace out of the box has become greater and the quality out the box has deminished....I think the KA was the last good thing to come out of Nissan after the death of the VG30E/T (both N/A and T) and the birth of the 91 classic SE-R.....
Its seems i am down a long road to critisism from my 2 sons who will fiddling with hybrids to make 100 HP but go 200 MPH as do we with 4cyl. to prove the small block and big block muscle cars we had what it took.....I abdicate my position of import know it all and fall into a nitch i so fouly hated....=)
And this is why I am sticking with the KA24E....

The problem with the KA was that it didn't carry alot of after market support.
Now because being boosted and blown is the big thing these days, people are willing to boost anything that has a compression chamber to it.
Through trial and error and alot of time, people have found that the KA if internally built, is very reliable to taking a large CHP beating.
Since the after market support has grown it has become a much more popular engine.
