hey all. well ive starting to make performance upgrades to my car, and i was hoping you guys could give me your opinions. would it be worth it to build my engine? i have an 89 S13(2.4L SOHC engine) with 89K miles on it. so far ive only added platinum spark plugs, apex catback exhaust system, & injen intake. i want to concentrate more on the engine itself now, but im wondering if i should just install aftermarket parts(fuel injectors, cam gear, etc.), or if i should first start by getting the engine rebuilt. ive had no problems with it since i bought the car 4K miles ago (except for needing a new valve cover gasket cuz I was leaking oil). have any of you had your engines rebuilt? how much did it cost you? think there's a good chance i could damage my engine if i add aftermarket parts w/o first getting it rebuilt? any and all opinions are greatly appreciated. thanks guys!!

well first u need to plan out the future plans that u want to do to the car.
and u have to stick to them. so, in other words, if u want to run a turbo car. u rebuild the motor for turbo(lower compression pistons, rods, etc.)
but if u want to just have it normally aspirated, then i would have to say, that their is no reason to rebuild the motor if it only has 87k miles. the simple bolt-on modifications shouldnt do any harm to the engine.

89k jeez. your motor has just been broken in! with that many miles, i'd buy the parts first, then rebuild. you could put a turbo with low boost on that engine and it would be fine as long as you have your engine checked for leaks and cylinder compression.

thanks fellas. actually im not looking to go turbo, just upgrade the engine. im looking to get an all around car(sound, looks, & performance) so i cant afford to go turbo(side note: im only 17). i got my system all done & now im working on performance. thanx for the advice guys. i guess ill wait till i hit at least 100K to get the engine rebuilt.

even 100k is to early to rebuild i think that is if your car runs fine. i know you've just got your car but most nissans will last forever. only rebuild if your engine dies, otherwise you'll be wasting your money if you're not going turbo. i have 187,000 miles. my engine could use an engine rebuild (cly #4 is barely oily sometimes) but it runs just as good as the day i bought it with 132,000 miles
