So I'm really lazy when it comes to this project. I'll admit it. Between going back and forth between Gainesville and Melbourne, I haven't had much time to work on my SR20DE project. Anyhow, I havent updated you guys on the progress in awhile. I popped off the old stock water pump today in preperation for the new one on route!

The motor looks lonely now.

Though I doubt many of you find this interesting, I think some of you are fond of the idea of a SR20DE 240sx Turbo!

NEWSFLASH: Its now going turbo.

I'm going to maintain a relatively tame set up for the time being. Heres some pics of some goods I got so far.

Whoa! Snazzyness!

Check out the stock Side mount Intercooler, in great shape may I add!

Look ma, no bends on the fins!!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v446/nissantuner22/100_0398.jpg

Oh, and lookie here, a turbo manifold awaiting a T28!

Stick around for future updates, including new fuel injectors, turbo, downpipe, and ecu tuning!

how well do you guys think the turbo will work with the higher compression?

MakotoS13
03-23-2005, 09:23 PM
sure it will.

and it'll prolly kill it too :)

as long as it's tuned correctly, it'll be ok.

i remember hugh advocating higher compression on a sr20det on freshalloy a few weeks back, but only as long as the tuning is competent.

Drive to Tampa and get it tuned by Enthalpy then only run 7pounds and be stoked.

Looks like a pretty cool project, definitely a different route you're taking than most. Be sure to keep us updated!

If it's not detonating and the bottom end will hold the power your making the only thing high-compression will do is get you better spool up, and beefier low-mid range. the "you can only boost a low compression motor" myth needs to die.

nissantuner22
03-24-2005, 09:03 AM
actually compression has nothing to do with spool up time. thats an internet myth. According to Enthalpy, now a days turbo motors shouldnt be run with less than 9:5 compression. Cool stuff.

and Makato, your just jealous. haha

Its not going to "blow up".

check out SR20deforum.com people have been boosting SR20DE's for years.

SR20DE Turboed is the same concept as a KA-T, i dont see what the Booing is for.

I think its an S13 SMIC, but it might be an S14, I thought they were teh same though?

Well, if there was a KA24DET available I would boo the KA+T also...Why turbo a SR20DE (higher compression, no piston oil squirters) when the SR20DET is available, and don't try to tell me economic reasons (unless the SR20DE was free). Sure you can do it with good mechanics and tuning, but why?

NA power is fun (mmmm....response) and there are alot of parts available for the SR20DE in the US AND in Japan. 200hp SR20DE? Yes, please...SR20DE sounds so nice with ITBs...

lets see hmmmmmmmmmmmm cheaper engine/s, and plentyful. they are available for cheap at junk yards! maybe thats what it is :bash:

Should have kept it NA.

It's a square engine, coulda had that thing revving hiiiiiiigh. TODA makes really awesome internals for building up NA SR20DE's, don't they? I know that's one of the crate racing engines they make available to GT300 teams.

It'll still be cool though, originality is always cool regardless.

Vivad Super Street readers would have questioned you why you would swap a non-turbo SR20 in the first place since thier bible tells them that DET is the god.. hahah

Good luck on the project!

I got the turbo a while back from my main man SR240DET. Excellent seller, great communication, great price. Will do business again!

Anyhow back to the "update" I slapped her on.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v446/nissantuner22/100_0434.jpg

Apparantly theres debate about what to do when mounting a T28 on an S13 motor. Something about clocking the turbo so the oil drain is less than blah blah degrees from vertical. Since my motor is an S13 DE, It's the same principle of putting the T28 on a red top. I just dont have all those snazzy stock oil line/ water line locations like you DET folk. No biggie! Its just like turbo charging a KA! I'm gonna tap into the pressure sending unit for my oil in, and drill and tap the stock block location for the oil drain. Here check it out, this is a pic of the boss already on the block.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v446/nissantuner22/100_0426.jpg

Thats all for now, tune in next time, when I custom make oil lines!

no, if you just want to drop it in..

yes, if you change the intake plenum, headers etc.. blah blah...
anything is possible!

i thought the tranny would not work with the se-r too. that is if you keep it RWD

a tunner do u still have the headers(stock lower)? mine got pinched at the junk yard. would you sell it to me?

how much horsepower/psi can the stock sidemount handle?

nissantuner22
04-20-2005, 04:26 PM
enough for a stock set up. Here in florida i wouldnt take it past 10 psi with 93 octane.

To the original poster- that seems like such a waste of time, but whatever floats your boat

To this moron:

well I thought most people here are knowlegable people, guess not!

no the tranny wont work! :tweak:

Tell you what... you try putting that motor in a 240 and then you tell us why it WON'T work... something about the distributor and the firewall... any moron could look at the motor and see that it is A) stupid to think about trying it B) retarded since you get less power than the stock KA C) That it won't fit with out modding the firewall.
