30 MPH to Park!!!

I was riding with my friends sister and she wanted to drive my s14 and i was like right... you are going to drive my car. I dont know what in the hell she was thinking but i was doing about 30 and then i barely step on the brakes and she puts it all the way to park :tweak:. Then im like wtf and i rapidly try to to take it back to D and it was locked up so i immediatly stop. Then i was like wtf just happen and she says "Oh i thought you were going to park" :loco:.

Well i drove my car around and after abusing it for about 6 months really hard i have never felt my tranny act up and now it clunks moderatly hard after it shifts to another gear. Yes i know this is the best excuse to do a 5 speed swap but im broker (if its even a word) than ever because my front end is also jacked up and my money is going towards that at this moment oh also i got fired from my job yesterday.


If anyone knows what kind of damage to expect or how long my engine/tranny is going to last me just give me a straight up answer. 5 speed swap is the only thing im hoping is going to get my car up and running in less than a 2 months but i dont know what to really expect of my engine after that.

no clue what is wrong. make that idiot girl pay for it though.

if you need to fix it for cheap auto trannies are pretty cheap cuz nobody wants them. don't know what would be invovled in swapping one in though.

a 5spd swap would solve your problem completely, so would not letting stupid girls touch things in your car when you drive.

I dont know if the tranny fluid has been changed since i bought it used. I havent noticed anything but a bit louder thump when going trough gears. I can change through gears and downshift like at 40 to 2nd without any hard clicking/thumps just goes in smothly all the way to 1st at 20 mph. Its good to know how beefy these trannys are but can anyone tell me what it does when you put it on park? Does it go in nutral and lock what up or does it put it on a gear?... Hey wtf are you talking about JDMs13?

Inside any auto tranny there is a parking gear. It's a beefy gear that when you put it in park locks it up. Try a fluid change/flush. If you wanna know if the fluid is bad before you do it. pull the dipstick out with the car running and check the level, color (should be red not brown/black), smell (if it smells burnt it's gone), and rub some of it between your finger and see if it's gritty. My bet it it's your fluid. An auto tranny uses fluid to do everything from shifting gears to lubing bearings to making the clutches in the clutch packs tougher.

Well to summarize what happen... she put it on Park when i was doing 30 mph. It was just yesterday. So it aint that damaged if it was droped to park going 30? I heard a loud ass screeching sound it was the nastiest sound i have ever heard.

Auto trannies hold a lot of fluid too FYI (8.3L), so have a couple large containers around when you drain.
Oh yeah, and I think you need to make that girl pay - PIIDB.

What i drove it today again in the afternoon and it feels just the same but with just a little tiny bit of difference. I dont know but after that drop i thought it wasent even gonna enagage into gear that minute. But for some reason it dosent feel that bad and it maybe just maybe was the tires that made that noise because my rear non lsd tire is in really bad shape so instead of the rubber stopping the car it just made it slide in park because i got wires sticking out of the tires where the camber is running.

u know u should of *something* slap her.. worse comes to worse replace tranny.... make her pay for it... if not we all should *something*slap you... if u change ur fluid check for metal bits in the oil then that might be a concern...

Wish for the loud thump to be a worn out tranny mount
The parking gear is a big gear lock, like a ratchet. Your fluid could be good and the tranny toast.
The only way to test the parking gear is to park the car on a hil. Put the car in gear, fully stoped!! and slowly relase the brake. Do it pointing down and up. It the car makes wierd sounds or rolls foward, the your friend should have a big repair ticket for that tranny. Even, you should use her car while yours is repaired.

OK i am going to need some clarification here, which tire is the non-LSD tire? Are you implying that 1 tire has LSD?

woman + cars = bad mix. I tried to show my ex gf how to drive stick when i had my s13 and we were in a huge Ralphs parking lot and somehow she manages to get from first to second no problem but when 3rd comes around she gets all panicky and freaks out like 'Omg what do i do "i told her to push in the clutch and move to 3rd she stops paying attention and starts heading for a wall , i then told her to push in the clutch and brake , she hits the clutch and gas so i yank the ebrake while were at 30mph i told her to let go of the clutch and luckily we stalled 5-6 ft away from that wall , i told her to sit in the backseat because i didnt want to look at her and we drove home

I don't have any bad stories, but, at my old job I let this chick drive my s14 back when it was auto. no harm, I figure she's responsible enough, and it was to get me some lunch. lets just say this story had a happy ending :D
