I have a '97 240 LE and the keyless entry is acting up. I can only get it to work half the time. I replaced the battery in the keychain remote but didn't seem to help. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this? I don't want to go to the dealership and pay $100 just for them to tell me its a $5 battery on the receiver or something.
Thanks

well, if it were the "receiver" battery, your car wouldn't start, as it runs off your car's 12V current. Do you have 2 remotes? Make sure the prob is not dirt and crud in the remote's button contacts before delving into wiring and such. Does the remote do other things? trunk pop, panic button, etc? Do they work? or are you just having issues with the door locks?
Since you're talking about the dealer, I'm guessing this is an OEM keyless? does it say Nissan on it somewhere? If it were a 3rd party brand, i'd say that age may affect it's longevity, as most alarms, regardless of brand, come from the same craptastic manufacturing plants in china. It's not uncommon for 3rd party alarms to have issues of varying degrees from vibration/heat/cold/age/etc.
Need more input :P

Reprogram the remote, if that doesn't help then replace it.

Yeah that's what I did with mine. It works fine now.

The keyless enty is from the factory and the remote says Nissan on it. Too bad when I bought the car, the guy said he only had the one remote. The remote only opens/locks the doors and has a panic button. I will try the panic button to see if its working, but I may just end up replacing the unit or try to clean the one I currently have.

can you get OEM keyless entry remotes for cars w/o it in the first place? I know they sell motors/kits/remotes so you can install it yourself but they don't seem too reliable.
i have a 93 fastback and it's somewhat of a pain to unlock my door and my passengers everytime. (not that i really care.. but just for when i'm in a rush)
