I need a good streetable autoX tire in a 16" size. Azenis aren't made in any good 16" sizes, so im debating between khumoMX and AVS Sports. Anyone used these before? Im going 245/45/16 all around. Anyone have any input? Also, i run STU, so no ao32's allowed. :Ownedd:

Khumo MX. Haven't ran on them, but that was my main choice before I went to a R compound class.

Is kumho making a 245 45 16 MX now? Last time I checked tirerack, 225 50 16 was the widest they went.

If I remember correctly when Sports Car covered the solo2 nationals last year the guy that took first place in stx was running falken fk-451. Maybe a tire to consider.

Those were shaved down... apparently the compound under the tread is identical to that of the old Azenis

From what I heard, not compareable for autox racing.

kuhmo doesnt make a 245/45/16, all they make is a 225/50/16, i need wider. Also, the Azenis sports only 16" size is 205/40/16, not wide enough (although it is my tire of choice), and Toyo has hte TS1 i believe, anyone tried those, kinda pricey. Anyone else?

the bridgstone re750s come in the right size, but have a treadwear of 340!! and the dunlop sport FM901s aren't the right size. I need a 245/45 (or even 40 series if i could find one)/16. Im now learning toward the YOKOHAMA AVS SPORTS. Treadwear of 220, correct size, and only about 140 a piece or so.

RE730s:= i run re730's the predesessor to 750's they are okay, but definatly not a track tire...very stiff sidewalls made decent responsiveness but not grippy at all.

FM:= i ran fm901s, funny... they rocked they are soft as hell for a street oriented tire, at threshold braking they'd let u know audible how much u got left in the tire before breakaway, correct me if im wrong, but normally thats a sign of street oriented tire with a lower threshold of traction that falls of gently compared to a track tire. decent on wet due to soft compund and dirt a$$ cheap

Yoks:= friend runs the advan/yoks he likes em, but hes not on a track much so it might not be the best track tire,(as ive seen most good track tires dont hold up that wwell on the hill)
what about bfgoodrich gforce? heard they were pretty good on track(they have so many levels i dont remember which ones, but i know they have big 16" sizes) and as a side not on the dunlops, personally i like the cheap ass fm901s over the sp9000's, just to let ya know

I have heard complaints of the FM901s having a soft sidewall, but if your not doing intense track work that should hold up ok. Do they come in the correct size though?

Discount tires has these listed for under $100 for a 245/45-16. Thats not bad at all and this tire is supposed to be a street tire class contender as well. And with a 200 treadwear rating and a 245/45-16 size, I think they got a shot at a good product.Hankook RS-2 (http://www.hankooktireusa.com/pdf/uploads/Z212.pdf)

BTW Rob you still have those z32 wheels, if so you still wanna part with them? Let me know, Later

yeah my brother just smoked me in his ap1 today in the midspeed section, just wanted to say the stock ap1 tires are pretty good

RE050: treadwear 180 i think, might have been 200. slightly on the expensive side, very soft, very responsive(they are stretched onto his rim). little crappy in the rain but they held up very nice today in the hot weather,(didnt get oily or slippery like the other low treadwear tires ive seen)

on a side note, they look weird as they mount backwards, (like if u took a directional tire and mounted it backwards, thats what the way u r supposed to mount them).

on a side note, KD is the bfgoodrich gforce highperformnce/R tire.

edit: OMG, the RE050's are 140 treadwear, limit for stock scca i belive

^yes the re050's are treadwear at 140, and is the limit for street tire class in SCCA. These are the tires that STI's, and 350Z's come with stock (only the track model anyway). And Thanks for the link justin, i never even heard of hankook making a track tire. Also, i dont have z32 wheels anymore, but i can probably get some for you (pretty sure a friend has some he'd sell you, i'll talk to him and get back to you......just PM me and we'll talk)

I've heard it was even stickier. I'll have to look for that article, don't remember where I saw it. 4/32" was the depth he was running, by the way. Tread squirm is what kills the FK451.

these hankook RS-2s look awesome for the price. Anyone tried these at all yet? Or any other performance hankook for that matter? http://www.hankooktireusa.com/pdf/uploads/Z212.pdf

A couple of guys on SCCA Forums have bought some and are supposed to let everyone know. One guy says there in line with the MXs *shrug*. I may get impatient and get a set soon. If so I'll let ya know.
