run flats been out for a while. heavy and not really for the performance minded person, well at least for grip. (cause they don't have any)
very effective though. i had them on my mini and i ran them for at least a two hours without noticing that they had a nail in them.
very expensive and you will need a specialized shop to either repair (which they don't really do) or replace. of course not having them on hand most of the time is given too.

I would think that shops wont really try to push these too much becuase its gonna take away from regular tire and wheel sales...
Like ADT depends on criminals to break into your house to make a living..

shops wouldn't but manufacturer's(sp?) will. some of the high performance sport cars already have them equipped with them...corvette and lotus elise come to mind.
shops won't want them probably cause they have to have the special equipment

They're not run-flats. They're 'tweels. They're not meant to ever have air in them.

i think this would be a good idea if car manufacturers would use these for spare tires. almost everyone forgets to check the tire pressure on the spare tire. using this they wouldnt have to check.

Why only for spares? Should probably just be for all around. I hope that they have the sectional part simply to show what its like and not that the production would be such. The next thing coming with tires that will be soon is installing tires with nitrogen from the factory. Nitrogen does not vary with temperature nearly as much and does not leak.

Changing runflat tires is still not as bad as tires with fix-a-flat. DO NOT USE THAT STUFF!! It is a disgusting, smelly mess that tire techs HATE!
As for the tweels, those things look like shit. besides, how would you stretch them?

why the fuck are people talking about runflats, nothing about the original post was about runflats, besides his utterly stupid title

Current fun flats, like on Vettes, just have stiff sidewalls.

QUIT TALKING ABOUT RUN FLATS! These are not run flats, They were never flat. I wonder how much these units weigh. With the plastic wheel and all could this potentially lower the full weight of the unit? I'm also curious to see how these would work in a performance application. If Michelin has devoted this much time to it, it has to be pretty ligit.

I think there were a couple threads that got deleted too, though I may be wrong
