is it possible at all to install a clutch without the alignment tool?

are they engine specific?

most nissans are the same.

Good luck getting the tranny to slide in.

Kragens has universal ones but they are not splined and dont work that well.

You don't need a spline, you just need a taper.

Most kits come with a selection of heads that thread onto a common shaft.

- Select the head that fits most firmly into your pilot bushing.
- Thread that head onto the shaft and insert it into the pilot bushing.
- Slide your clutch over the shaft.
- Slide your tapered tool onto the shaft, against clutch spline, thereby centering it.
- Lay your pressure plate overtop and tighten.
- Remove tapered tool along with shaft and head.

Done. I used such a tool and had my tranny up within 10 minutes ready to be bolted in, with only the aid from a jack.

Go to your local auto parts store and see if you can rent one. Here in Canada we can rent a variety of tools for free from Partsouce by putting down a refundable deposit. See if your local autostore has the same option. If not, you may have to fork out $20 or so. In either case, make sure you get one.

For what it's worth, you could buy one for what shipping to Louisiana would be, but don't try and install a clutch without SOME form of alignment

for what its worth I have done many trans to motor bolt ups about 5 out of car and 3-4 in car on various cars without an alignment tool. And havnt had any problems with any of them. eyeball it there is room for some play in the trans bolts and it will only go on one way you cant mess it up so it either goes on or it doesnt

you can use a long bolt or sometrhing to allign the disk as long as it is pretty close you should be alright

Use some Krazy glue!!
Glue the disk to the pressure plate.
No need to buy/use an aligment tool
The glue will break as soon as you start your car.

I've done it without an alignment tool as well. Sure you might think I'm not the brightest but all I did was bolt up the pressure plate to where I can still slide the disk with my fingers. Next just feel around the outer edge to make sure the disk is straight with pressure plate. If you have time buy the tool, I can't afford to have any downtime so I did it my way.

What brand of clutch did you buy that didnt come with an alignment tool? You could always take the input shaft out of the transmission. :D

bought a used OEM clutch for swap..
I already picked up the alignment tool tho.. thanks
