ok so me and some friends were at this one place were it has a pretty nice corner to take. i take with my s13 a couple of times on the right hand turn. on the eighth one, my front left 15" rota grid totally just blew up! all the spokes just broke off and flew, the tire and wheel went flying somewhere, and the center was the only piece still on the car with the lugs. i've never heard or seen something like this happen before. ever happen to you? and how good are rota grids? :bash:

hmm... the wheel "blew up"? I'd like to see pics of that. Not saying your BS'ing, but I have never seen or heard of anything like that happening with Rota's or any wheel for that matter.

this guy came into my work one time asking to switch the stock tires back on his wrx because one of his Rays Gram Lights (57c's) broke through the middle of 2 spokes... scary thought..

You get what you pay for in wheels. I'd spend an extra buck on the 4 rotating things under my ass.

damn! thats crazy
i've seen this happen in rally racing...but their wheels take a massive beating...but the wheels that i saw rip in half were OZ on a subaru (like one of hte company's cars)
the rim broke right the fuck off mid turn, and he just finished the stage on spokes
from what i understadn the wheel got caught up in the gravel/mud and was already cracked and it just broke off...so he was like...hmm, whatever and kept driving

search on honda-tech.com, theres a thread there w/ everyone who has had probs w/ thier rotas like that. why would you put rotas on your 240 anyway?

In rota's defense, my friend spun out at autox and slammed one of his rota torqes into a curb. His rear control arm snapped, axle blew out, and other damage sustained. The rota was fine, just a few scratches. The wheel was literally tucked under the car after this incident. After fixing the suspension damage, he used the same set of wheels for another 6 months with no problems. 2004 WRX, btw.
So there's a counter-argument. Maybe rota doesn't have the most consistent materials processing?

didnt some guy post asking advise because he was about to buy a set of broken avs tcIIs? on of the wheels were cracked. these are advans! so i guess it just shows that some people have bad luck...or drive harder than their cars are set up to handle...

Light. Cheap. Durable.
pick two, and never expect all 3.
They obviously aren't able to make their wheels so cheap because they use the best possible materials and processes. And yes, this has happened to many many other rotas.

in rotas defense alot of honda autoXs use them and they seem to be fine, of course anytime when something is mass produced there's going to be isolated incidents. I love how everyone just naturally equates cheap to crap (while I would say there's alot of truth in that, it's not a universal law), there's plenty of expensive brand name wheels that crap out too.
i did some research and it seems rota has had problems w/ subzeros in the past due to the design, but truth be told if you're gonna run into a giant pothole or a curb going fast I don't care what kinda wheel you have, you're out of luck. I would think they would be fine, just make sure the check them periodically.

you cant expect not to crack wheels with lower profile tires, a buddy of mine cracked his volk GT-P 3 different times using a 40 series tire

i was just about to mention that picture, that guys rim supposedly rusted through from the inside of the paint from storage and it went by unnoticed, i think rota ended up replacing his front suspension, not too sure didnt follow all the way through the write up
I would daliy rotas, but not track it

The slipstreams were infamous for a long time for breaking in cornering situations. A friend of mine three of the five spokes on his EG civic doing some "spirited driving" Meanwhile another guy we know has been using them for his slicks on his drag civic for a long time. Within every wheel manufacturer there are bound to be some abnormalities, but you sure hear about it alot when Rotas come up.

I had a racing heart cp-08 break away from the spokes when my brother ran my civic into a ditch at 40mph (wheel took a lot of the force) but to have this happen without an impact is rediculous!!!!!!!!
And that wrx pic is AWESOME!!!

yah this has been documented on honda-tech. eve the guys who run honda challenge use the rotas, they know its a risk they take in racing. sh*t happens, rota makes good products, just the failure rate is always there, either you got a bad wheel, or that wheel took a serious beating.

every company has their lemons i guess. you dont hear about it too often though, considering how many ppl own Rotas.
