Hey guys! im really new to the nissan scene. i used to be a DSM'er with a '94 eclipse. but as of currently, my new ride (which i've owned about 3 weeks now) is a 1993 white 240sx. i was wondering... because im new, about some aspects about my car and that off related cars. some of my questions and concerns are:
1. how big size tires can i fit on my s13? how wide and how tall can i fit?(and can someone explain what a "lip" is and what units its measured.
2. difference between "fastback"/"hatchback"?
3. what exactly are kouki's and zenki's?
4. im guessing.... 89-94=s13, 95-98=s14, and 99+=s15. does anyone object?
5. whats this fuss about red tops and black tops? differences?
7. whats cheaper, getting a new KA, or rebuild my 170k KA?
6. anything else i should know in the world of nissan?
(i've searched the forums, but only to get a gamut list of threads that dont really answer my question, they just have the keywords i used. i've searched, i really tried )
to be honest, i hardly know much about cars, even though i would love to know how to modify them. im hoping i get honest and friendly but informative feedback, hearing as nissan owners are well respectable. :coold: if you guys can and are willing, it would be appreciated if you guys can tell me your instant message handle, so may easily reach and contact you guys for any information i may need help with.
also, with the s13 i own, when i shift, it feels like the car lags, and then around 2300 rpm the car "jumps" foward. i've been told it might be the 1.timing belt 2.timing chain and 3.mass air flow sensor. i dont know what these are thoroughly :tweak: and why they would cause the problem. thanks guys and hopefully sometime we'll have a 240sx meet and see eachother. i live in socal anyways. :bigok:

For this last part check for a spark problem or a fuel filter problem. Seems like it may be that common problem in most S13's

haha sick I love this forum already, I'm not the only one that tells someone to search anymore woo! hah
In regards to your hesitation I'd assume it to be your MAF. I had the same issue and cleaning it with some rubbing alc and a q-tip made it fine. Search on how to get your ECU into the diagnostic mode to see if it's throwing any codes as well.

hmm, it's hard to believe u couldn't find n e answers with the search botton since i've seen these questions a lot on the forums..but i can answer a few. The others i don't want to answer simply becuz i don't want to be the person to turn to for answers but since ur new and u don't seem to bad of a guy...so here goes some answers.
1. lip refers to where the edge of the rim reaches the spokes of the rim. Even dougnuts have lips..it's the part u curb when u curb ur rim meaning rub against it. jus go outside and look at ur mom's car or something or ur own (if u have s13 7 spoke rims) and u can see a little ass lip probably bout 1/4 an inch. It's still a lip. many rims out there have long ass lips though..n e where from 2 to 4 inches or even more. as far as size, it depends on ur rims, sidewall, tire width, and whether or not u decide to roll ur fenders. also depends on ur suspension since coilover are thinner and allow u to run bigger things.
2. i don't think i've really heard the term hatchback refered to a 240sx. It's a fastback, hatchback are like civics (ef, eg, ek) but fastback i guess (some1 correct me if i'm wrong) are more slanted. I don't think there's too much of a difference but the 240sx has a fastback version as well as a coupe version for the s13's.
3. kouki, zenki, chuki all refer to different years. in japanese, it means something like "earlier model" "middle model" "later model" basically refering to the years where the appearence was different. use the search botton for this.
4. yes, u are right on this although the s15 went out of production in 2002 and is not offered here unfortunately
5. redtops and blacktops refer to the jdm motor (sr20det) and there aren't much differences IF you're talking about the s13 redtop and blacktop. The s14 in japan came with a blacktop too but is different (turbo, variable valve timing shiet or wutever u want to call it, the design, etc). s15 had a motor too, i believe it's called a silvertop (once again correct me if i'm wrong on this)
7. this depends how much u want to spend, if u want to rebuild it like a full rebuild, or what not. i believe it's common sense that rebuilding one would cost less than buying one. it all depends if ur doing ur own work or paying some1.
6. don't know wut to tell u bout the nissan world besides the s13 driver side seat is known to get fuked up easily on the left side and the driver side door panel tends to chip on the top near the middle. also the dash likes to crack. that's all i can think of. i've wasted enuff time responding..late
