ok well, i posted before about my situation, i just cant determine what my problem is internally with my dohc, its either one of two things. rod knock or lifters are bad, but i think it might be the unfortunate rod knock, now my question is HOW LONG WILL SHE LAST? as a daily driver back and forth to school 45 min everyday w/ a rod knock and or something gone bad in the head? ok here is what i am experienceing. at idle she sounds perfect except for a lil ping under the valve cover, but as soon as i go above 2500 rpms she sounds like a small diesel, but its not that loud its very minimal but enough for me to notice it. another Q, is there anything i can do to prolong her death? i have new rod bearings and rings, i just dont know if its worth it to put remove the motor and install them, when using the same rods, and i just dont have the time to do soo. well i hope someone can help me out here! thanx! nick

From my expirence (89 2.8L fiero) it wont last to long. My friend had a prime GT and started getting a rod knock after a race with a Z32. It sounded like you described, small ping at idle (sounded like valves or something) and then when you reved it higher it got dramatically worse. He let me take it out soon after the knock started for a drive (he had bought a new car by this time and we were about the part it out anyway) and I drove it pretty easily for about 45 min before I blew the rod through the block. So that was that. I wouldnt recomend trying to drive it until it blows espically if you have replacement parts because your going to probably end up throwing your broken rod through the block.

Yeah i wouldnt recommend driving it around with the rod knocking like that its going to throw the rod pretty soon.

Fiero died in 88.
Something about it catching on fire.
Nothing a LS1 swap won't fix. :D

Put in a DE and give IT new rod bearings ($40) as preventive maintenance. My No.1 rod bearing went in my KADE at 145k. After a long weekend and with new rod bearings my car runs better than it ever has.
