I've got a 97 LE, no ABS. . no VLSD. . . but I just bought a VLSD, like 10 minutes ago. . =)
Anyway. . I need some advice on how to install it? Is it as simple as unbolting the new one from 3 locations and bolting up another one? I've got one from a 95 J30, this shouldn't need any parts, should it? I assume I'll need fluid. . . .anything else? Anyone done this? please help =)

i just bought a J30 diff also, but haven't installed yet. what i have figured out, however, is the J30 (with ABS) diff is approx 3/4in longer at the pinion snout (front, driveshaft end) . u'll see a sensor on the RH side right behind the d/s flange. (u won't use the sensor, but leave it in there). that is why it's longer. my understanding is i have to get an S14 5spd ABS/LSD driveshaft or have a machine shop shorten my original non-ABS/LSD d/s.
to verify urs, measure from the center of the front mounting holes forward to the flat edge of the d/s flange. i believe you will find the J30 is longer than ur stock one. hope u don't have same prob......just somethin else to mod

when you say "2 LSD's and 2 VLSD's"
What kind of LSD's are the first ones. Mechanical? or clutch type? who makes them. Nissan only produced VLSD's.
also check this out for your info on installing the J30 diff:

Not true. Turbo 300zx (Z31) in late '80s had clutch-type LSD (VLSD was also available). That's only one example; there're probably more.
Edit: It'd still be interesting to know what the guy was talking about; probably meant two open diffs, not two LSDs. People can be funny that way.

And Nissan is going back mechanical LSD once again. . with helical available in just about everything on the market, including Altima and SE-R spec V. . as well as Silvia, just to name some of 'em....
I can say . it works nice in both the Altima and SE-R Spec V =)
