well it all started on thursday of last week, i decided to get the ka24de dymoed. i must say she did awsome, got more then i expected, 146hp and 152 torque at the wheels, sooo i think tha was pretty good, well on the way home my fan belt aka ps belt went, and car overheated pretty bad, so anyways i replaced the belt, did a compression check to make sure everything was on the up and up, i got 174 all 4 cylinders, sooo i decide to go for a drive, well what happen next was everytime i pushed in the clutch at a stop the car would die. so i started to give her a lil gas when i stopped, then i notice this awful knockin sound comin from motor, but only happens when driving, not at idle. it sounds like is comin from under the valve cover but, when i am in the car sounds like the there is a piston knock, i duno what to do now! i need her to run right she's my daily driver back and forth to school, what should i doo? i am goin to do another comp test tommorrow and see what happens, is there anything else i can doo? thanx hope to hear from someone soon.

Under the valve cover, it might be a slight valve ping. I'm surprised it's lasted that long, good old reliable KAs...sounds like your motor's in trouble, though.

Sounds like it may be rod knock. If so, she is gonna go soon, start looking for sources of a repacement. When and if she goes that will give you the least downtime. Sorry man but she did make it for awhile.

i have a spare ka24de with a blown head gasket, but i really dunno what else is wrong with it, so i dunno if i want to rebuild it or not. i think my problem is in the top of the motor, i just started her and let her warm up and there is a definit ping on the intake side, when i rev her up it gets worse, i dont think its rod knock but i will see tommorrow when i take her for a spin, i wonder how much it would cost me too replace the whole top end. now i gotta look for parts damnit, it its not one thing its another.

i had a similar problem with my ka24e.
after harsh abuse....i would hear a definate pinging...
it was my lifters sticking because i didnt changed the oil and the oil that was in there was very thin to begin with. After i put some fresh oil in and some lifter noise adittive (found at kragen) the problem went away.
maybe that will help....but with all the mileage you have...it could be something else.

well i took a closer look and i definitly did something bad, the head gasket is leakin oil onto the block at the driverside rear of the head, i looked at the coolant and there is no oil in it that i can see, and the oil level is the same as when i checked it the other day, so i dunno what is up, i think i will just get that additve and drive her till she blows, and with 270k miles and a leakin head gasket i dont think that will be long! whats everyone else think?

i would stay away from addiditives, most of the time it just eliminates the symnptoms of certain engine problems. For example my friends Integra R was burning oil for some reason so he added some additive to the oil, later that day, ( we were at a lapping day), his motor blew piston ring. meh.
i would get a replacement ready, or if you can just replace the headgasket. everything should be back to normal if you do, unless if you totally drove her hot and warped something.
