View Full Version : AIV removal and idle issues??

I recently removed the AIV from my '91 240sx. I traced the two small vacuum lines back to the throttle body, removed them and put a rubber cap on the throttle body tubes. The vacuum line that was T'd into the intake was also removed and a rubber cap was placed over it. Lastly, I removed the metal tube that attaches to the exhaust manifold and replaced with a plug (Nissan p/n 14052-21R00). Now whenever I come to a stop, the car will idle at about 1500 rpms. After about 5 seconds, it drops down to 900 rpms and stays there. The only thing I did not plug was the hole going into the air intake box, but I did not think this would make a difference since it is before the air gets metered by the MAF. Any help would be appreciated.

The AIV allows air into the intake when the throttle is closed. Removing it would probably result in some idle troubles...

I dont run an iacv either. Your car will never idle good.

If you set it to idle with throttle cable tension, then you have to set it when the car is warmed up. Also if you do this the car wont idle when cold.

Sucks huh :ugh:
