is the a/f feature accurate enough for tuning? my first guess is no because it uses ecu readings which use oem o2 sensor readings. but i just want to double check. thanks.

you are correct in your guess, it is just like any narrowband air fuel gauge, the gauge itself is accurate, its the sensor output that isn't.

word, can i not put a wideband o2 sensor and send that to my ecu? or would it just be like ummm wtfmate?

wideband's operate on a different voltage range, I can't remember what it is off the top of my head... you can get a wideband uego which will convert it to a narrowband signal for the ECU, I think AEM makes one. but it doesn't make the narrowband output signal anymore accurate. I'm not sure if the r-vit has an option to use that wideband signal or not... I'd reccomend just spending the money on a seperate wideband sensor and controller and installing that. it is definitely worth it.

yeah i was gonna just go lm-1, but i'm totally down with the engine code quick-check and diagnose/reset 8D for the lazy man within all of us.

ever considered the old-school apex'i multichecker? I've got one if you are looking for one to buy, I know they are kinda hard to find.

similar functions of the r-vit?

wideband puts out 0-5V, narrow band does 0-1V

multichecker is designed for nissans to show exactly what it's doing. if you look on www.240sx.org they have an install and picture files of the factory apex'i manual to show what all it can do. here's just a quick synopsis:
[qoute]Monitors all various aspects of NISSAN vehicles using the diagnostic signal.
The Multi-Checker is a valuable diagnostic tool designed for most NISSAN fuel injected automobiles. The unit monitors and displays a wealth of information and is unmatched by any other similar diagnostic meter on the market today.
The unit displays vehicle speed and engine RPM both in real-time and peak hold modes. Injector pulse duty is displayed in percentages with a peak hold mode. The airflow percentage, ignition timing, horsepower display, torque display, and air-fuel ratio display add to its impressive list of functions.
The unit can also alert the driver to recommended up-shifting points and will sound an alarm as the air flow meter or injectors reach maximum capacity. A large, easy-to-read display clearly shows all functions and is back-lit in orange for easy nighttime visibility. The display can also be set to a bar graph mode for quick and efficient monitoring.

does it check codes as well? i've been trying to find multiple places to read up on it but they never say anything about codes.

not sure, I never tried to use it to check codes. Looking at the instruction manual I don't believe that it does. http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/apex.htm that has the manual in pictures at the bottom if you want to read up on it.

i'll have to look into that unit. i wish it read codes :\ that was one of the boner features of the r-vit.

I hae the RVIT in my car. It's not the most useful thing for tuning but it's great for just monitoring basic vitals. And it's really nice to have the peak hold and warning functions set. I wouldn't tune y car based on the RVITs air fuel though......
