alright i did a few searches for this and i am yet to find a problem like mine. When i start my car, cold warm or w.e type day outside it sounds fine, i can rev it up a few times and drive it around easy and shes purrs haha...But once i give er shit for a bit or go WOT for a bit somthing happens and if i let off the gas and the engine rev's down you can here the rattle...This is the same as if i was sitting in neutral and rev'ed it up a bit as it is coming down you can here the rattle.

As it is at idle or during acceleration there seems to be no problem, (that i can hear). I have tried to locat the problem but without a stethescope i cannot decide where its coming from (to much echo).

So my obvious question is : is this yet abothe case of timeing chain rattle but in a different form or wtf is going on.

I have a 97 240sx with 174,000 kms (110,000 miles approx).

thanks everyone.

you guys might wanna check your timing chain guide because i had the similar problem with a sohc ka and sure enough my timing chain cut through the front cover and water pump causing to leak and over heat the motor.

my motor had a knocking/rattling sound..
my mechanic taught me a lil trick..
use a screwdrive as a stethescope..i kno it sounds dorky..but it works..
the tip of the screwdriver on the cover..and yur ear on the end of the handle..
n listen 2 where it is comin from..
i took out the bracket that covers my timing chain..it was cracked..
hope u find the problem and eliminate it!
peace

That trick also works for finding dead injectors, no click=bad injector
