Under the '95-'98 240sx Clutch parts section, Courtesy Nissan lists a "dust boot", part #30542-00005. Image:

I ordered this, thinking it was part of the lower shift boot for the tranny that goes UNDER the shifter trim and leather boot. As it turns out, the boots under there are far larger and totally differently shaped.

Anyone have any clue what it is?

I've sinced then found the correct boots to finish my 5spd swap, but I'm curious what this rubber block is really for and if it has any use.

I couldn't find anything resembling it in my FSM.

Perhaps this is an s13 part mislabeled?

It was described as a "dust boot"; it doesn't seem that far off from a lower shift boot.

In any case, it was only 7 bucks, but now i know.

Thanks to all for the ID.

It is a dust boot but for the clutch fork to keep shit out of your bell housing. Check yours out and see if its torn or just replace it before it does.

sucks you got the wrong part, but you probably need this one anyways. don't even have to open the clutch system to put it on.

I actually ordered that by accident from courtesy nissan. I called them up after though and bitched saying I needed the shift boot and was shipped the wrong part. I got to keep that little fork boot but I was also shipped a shifter rubber boot free of charge and they normally wanted like 45$ for the thing. realized what it was after and just kinda grinned for awhile lol
