View Full Version : Pulling getting outta hand!!

k, if anyone has seen my last post, I had a problem with the car pulling hard in different directions. Then it suddenly got REAL bad, took it in, turned out to be a tire rod..ok figured that.. but they also showed my the stabilizer links were a different size, and needed to be replaced, just so that tire wear and stuff would be normal.. I figured this would take care of my original pulling problem, so ok...down goes $350.. the mechanic says, ok, test drove the car, its straight now.. The alignment looked perfect up to specs, everything underneath looks good. Took it out.. and the thing is still pullin.. just more the other way.. Im disturbed of course, but he sounds friendly about taking care of the problem.. ("In my 20 years experience, I see this all the time, and its 99% to do with tire rotation" tread pull or something he called it.... so we moved the tires around, still no luck, tried again another way..still pullin... grr..says the alignment was perfect, but says the camber may need to be adjusted to compansate, even though the camber isn't meant to be adjusted on our cars.. said he knows a way to do it anyways, and to bring it back for the 2 hour+ job (no cost of course)..

I'm just getting worried now... if this doesn't fix it, my camber is all screwed up.. AND it'll still be pullin..

Just to give a bit of a description as to how the pulling feels is that it gradually pulls to the right, but if theres any slant, or small unevenness, the car suddenly pulls really hard in that direction, the car is just so hard to keep straight... like there's nothing to keep the steering wheel straight, like it has alot of free play with the slightest bit of road feedback...

I know this is kinda long, but I'm really hoping someone might be able to tell me what else this could possibly be.. I've dropped so much $$$ already!! it's frustrating!!!

Thanks guys, your all so helpfull !

I have a little out-of-spec caster, for which there is no stock adjustment for. This causes my car to pull just slightly. Is your caster ok? If it's way off, I think some aftermarket tension control rods have a caster adjustment on them.
Also, wide directional tires will follow cracks and grooves in the road, which gives a "pulling" feeling.
Just some ideas.

Check your steering rack to see if it's loose.

Also the tires are Kumho Supra Esta's brand new 205/55/15 if that could have any effect ?

have you checked you're power steering system? make sure it's distributing fluids (or whatever it does, i have a general idea of how it works though) evenly. i mean it sounds like you've check out every thing w/ your suspension and tires and all but nothing with you're steering like you're connections or something.....i'd check that

its not your tires. I have those exact tires, and have no problems whatsoever.

hey.....i had the same tires on my 240 as urs...about the same specs too. i did get a pull everyone once in awhile...but my friend told me it was because of the tire. the kumho esta's tend to follow the grooves on the road. i was told because its some kind of unidirectional tires. not sure. i would say try to drive it on a newly paved road or somewhere you know there are no grooves. see if that works.....i just recently put on new tires...yesterday...so ill let you know if i still feel the car pulling. hope this helps...if its a mechanical thing....sorry cant help you there.

Here's a question for you. Are you rolling around on blown shocks? That will cause the car to veer on a slant.

This happened when I blew a T/C rod bushing. The left one lost its juice first letting the left wheel move a bit and it pulled. The right side went the same week so then it just got sloppy. I have two permanent bleach like marks in my driveway now from whatever is in those things.

I got Project Silvia TC rods and now it's straight as an arrow.

I have a blown shock and cracked TC bushings also, when I hit the brakes hard my car pulls to the left......and if Im at high speeds and I drive over those depressions caused by semi trucks at stoplights (wavvy asphalt) ..my car freaks out.

Yep, those are TC bushings for yah. The wheels are moving back and forth.
