Car running cold

The clutch fan on my S14 seems to be broken and do not disengage.
At idle when I pop the hood, I can feel the wind blowing so powerful that I can't even open my eyes behind the fan :)
Can this cause my car to run cold?
I know the clutch fan is much powerful than electric fan but it is not as powerful as the wind flow when driving right?
When I am going 60 mph, my temp gauge drops almost close to cold, it is no where close to the center. On warmer days, it is close to center though.
If this is caused by clutch fan, should I throw it away and get a electric fan?

Get a new clutch fan if it isn't working right. And get a water temp gauge while your at it. The stock gauge is crap.

How does a aftermarket gauge help?
I thought you use the same input from the stock sensor.

You don't use the same sensor as stock. When you buy an aftermarket gauge, it comes with its own sensor. For instance, my sensor is in the upper radiator outlet and I know exactly how hot the coolant in my system is right when it comes out of the engine.

As for how it helps, I know EXACTLY how warm my engine is running. You on the other hand are trusting some crappy stock gauge. The fact that your gauge is reading "cold" when you are going 60 just doesn't sound right. One other thing that could be wrong is that your thermostat could be stuck open. When's the last time you replaced it?

Thanks for the explanation.
I was suspecting the thermostat at first but it seems fine because when I idle it, the temperature stays right in the middle.
So the fact that the car runs cold only at high speed makes me think that high flow of air combined with stuck clutch fan(spinning around 3K rpm @ 70 mph) cools down the engine too much.
Cost of replacing clutch fan seems to be equivalent to getting an e-fan and I heard good things about e-fan so I'm debating!
How is your fan's air flow at idle?
I cannot quite determine whether mine is broken or not but it makes lots of air flow at idle no matter what the temperature is.

I doubt that your clutch fan is sucking in air harder than air is pushing in at 60 mph. That's why it seems like your gauge isn't working correctly.

maybe you just have a bad thermostat thats stuck on open and combined with that stuck fan , sounds like a thought
