I was getting through installating a lot of my aero, and I came to doing the last part, my JDM Silvia kouki front lip.
Only problem is, I'm not sure how to install it as the mounting hardware is a bit confusing.
here are the pics below:

Ok, the only thing I faintly remember is something I read (translation) on the Yahoo Japan auctions many months back. I remember the phrase, "drilling is required." This was on one of the auctions that had a used lip for sale.
Well, as you can see from the pics, it might look like I have to drill INTO my JDM kouki front bumper. There are 6 places where there is a small plate and a screw, one on each side of the front air dams, and two more each on either side of the lip.
The point of this post is to ask people who have installed this before if drilling into the bumper is the correct thing to do. I really wanted to avoid asking for help since this isn't the best place to do it, but I didn't want to plunge right into it because the jdm bumper I got was a big investment for me and I don't want to permanentely ruin it. If anyone could figure out a solution, I'd appreciate it. I think it comes down to two choices: drilling into the bumper to accomodate the raised threaded holes, or just dremeling down those bumps (permanentely modifying the lip) and screwing it on the far outside edges, and using double sided tape everywhere else.
any suggestions from anyone would be helpful. thanks.

Short answer: Yes, you will have to drill into your bumper.

You don't have to drill into it. Just attach it with 3M tape all around and then the 2 screws on each side in the fender well.
That's all my lip is help on with (2 tiny screws on each side and two 8 inch pieces of 3M tape), I've hit stuff and no problems. There's no reason to have 8,000 screw holding on a little front lip.... I sure wouldn't drill into the bumper.

KOUKI KA-T, permanent modification IS required, there's no way around it. See the raise threaded holes on the front area of the lip? It won't allow me to "mold fit" it onto the bumper since it is raised. Either those two bumps have to be grinded off, or I have to drill a hole so that bump can fit into the bumper.

I guess i don't understand.... whether you put screws through the bumper or not it should still fit the same.... Oh well. Guess you'll just have to drill holes if you can't find a way around it, that sucks. Glad I went with the Trust one after all.
But of course post some pics when you get it on....

He's trying to say regardless of how he chooses to mount it, tape or screw, the indentation (female hole) where the screws are SUPPOSED to go protrude inwards that drilling the bumper will be necessary

here you go, more pics to clear up what the problem is. They should speak for themselves if you look at them and read my previous posts. whether or not this is beneficial as a help thread, I hope it can give some info to others who are looking to install this OEM lip.
gap between lip and bumper:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v607/turdz/IMG_2769.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v607/turdz/IMG_2770.jpg
gap on the side of the bumper due to raised threaded hole (signal mount)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v607/turdz/IMG_2771.jpg
if I push this lip as close as possible against the bumper, the raised threaded hole will contact the bumper first, thus preventing me from mounting the lip flush.

another look at the side of the bumper, and how the lip cannot be mounted with tape, zip ties, or anything since the lip doesn't even full touch the bumper.

I was expecting a post like that some time or another. thanks. I guess i can take a snapshot once its all finished.
oh yeah, and i'm not gonna drill the holes. I'm going dremel off those 6 bumps, and just mount it with double sided tape, and bolts in various areas.

I get it now.
But I'd drill the holes instead of fucking up the lip. The lip is the rarer piece and technically more valuable. I wouldn't butcher such a rare piece.

to me it looks like you're suppose to drill holes on your bumper where those bumps are, then you put those metal plate thingys on the inside of the bumper then you screw them in. at least thats what it looks like to me, ha. it would be a very secure, though alittle excessive way to mount it. but i bet you could lop off a couple squirrel heads and it wouldn't go hurt your lip! hahaha

400-500 dollar lip vs 225 bumper
which one should i cut up? not a hard decision to make
TurDz

actually, it is a hard decision.
I cut the lip for all of you who are wondering.
I test fitted it on..man, it's a pretty tight fit, I don't see how I could've found the correct placements for the holes in the bumper without spending a lot of time.
and no, it wasn't $400-500...

To avoid future problems you should mount the lip how it was made to be mounted. :)

Seconded. I don't see a reason why you shouldn't.
Finding the correct spots for us to drill holes in my bumper didn't take long at all.

easiest way to find where to drill holes, color the screw areas on the lip wiht a marker, and lay it up against the bumper and then press. take off the bumper and you should see circles on your bumper. drill away.

Who says I was talking to you? Maybe I was talking to a mutual friend we know in real life. Maybe I was talking to someone not in this thread. Maybe I was talking to the voices in my head. Maybe I'm talking to my dead relatives. Maybe I'm talking to Chris' brother. Who knows?
As an aside:
fucking what people say is good advice as a rule!
Chill out.

I felt pretty shitty when I already dremeled off the bumps and then ppl start replying with help and suggestions.
But I finally got it done...it's not perfect, but I'm very happy with it. It took a lot a lot more work to get it on with double sided tape than I expected. The main reason there are 6 screws to put on is the lip is a PERFECT mold over the bumper, and it take that much force (the force of threading and screws) to close the gaps and such. You can imagine now how much compression force it took just to get the lip in place.
I don't really need to post any pics, all of you have seen what it looks like. Similar to KOUKI KA-T's and exactly like Supra Hunter's. I installed zenki sides along with rear valences and a K's kouki wing too.
thanks for all the input.
