These are two pretty cheap (retail price) coilovers dampers.
Tanabe Sustec Soc II = average about $780
Tein basics = average about $890
so which one do you guys think is better all around between the two? trying to make a decision here. i dotn want to spend my life savings on some dampers.

You've saved 900, just save the rest and get the KTS or HE's.
WELL worth the extra money.

hmm yeah. ive had a lot of people tell me to get the KTS's. I really would like to purchase them, but the thing is, im not gonna do hard drifting or anything liek that. i just want something that is atleast decent, good for gripping, and is pretty comfortable and best bang for the buck. KtS's are about $1100 and its true it not TOO far away from $900 but i dont evne have 900. The reason why i asked aobut these tewo coilovers is because i have a friend who can hook me up with them for pretty cheap for (for about a hundred dollars off). so with the extra $200-400 that i save, i wanted to get some tein tension ball mount rods or the nismo powerbrace. however, thanks for the recommendations though guys.
plus i wanna see how many people out there have these coilovers dampers and im just checkin out the reviews on them. also, if you know of ANY other best bang for the buck coilovers, please tell me.
hey tygma, do the tanebes sustec pros come with pillow mounts?

No they don't. I'm using Cusco camber plates and JIC rear solid upper mounts though. Dude i so reccomend these coilovers... wayyyyyyy better spring rate(8/6 kg/mm as opposed to Tein's 7/5, 6/4? I dont remember) than the basics and the dampening is stiffer too... plus they are purple! KTS's are nice too, but i got these for 828 shipped from Signal. But whatever man, it's up to you!

if your friend can get you hook ups on tein then go with tein he's simple as that. ITs no point to go 80% of the way and only get half of the benefits.
Who's says coilovers with stiff rides won't give you grip ? If you look at a lot of the grip cars they are using nearly the same spring rate... the only thing that might be different is the rebound and even then you can;'t adjust rebound on the tanabes or tein basics. I've sat in a celica with the tanabe pro II or whatever and there is just too much body roll. I dont like the feelign grip or drift.
Also KTS as well as tein HE's Allow you to have 2 levels of ride height. The lower monts are threaded and allow you to change the height without adding preload or changing the stroke. This will allow you to alter your height as well as adjust for preload when corner weighting. You can't do that with tein basics or tanabe pro II. Also another benefit the kts has over the teins and tanabe is its inverted mono tube that allows for better consistency due to less heating. Anyways get what you want to get but there is a reason why 5-10 people already told you to buck up and drop the extra cash.

because grip for us, at least ME, means hills. and in the hills stiff suspension as in stiff dampening and/or spring rates will not function as well.... bouncing around, bump steer, i duno man.. u name it. I had some stiff JICs from Japan before i got my Tanabes, they sucked for gripping in the hills, pretty good for drifting though. Anyway, if anyone cares to argue im open for discussion. Celica? If it was a S13, it'd be an option for comparison.. but this is two totally different cars and characteristics.

thread revival
this might come as a dumb question to some of the suspension gurus. I had Tanabes with helper springs and 8/6 rates and 3/4 were blown just because of old age. I have these Pro SOC 2 sitting in my garage. They are 6/4 as mentioned above. I like the short case/stroke of these. So, the question is, What if i put the old 8/6 springs to these new ones I have? I have a vague understanding of shock valving. Would that effect the shock itself?
I searched about this but, no one really answered this question in the old threads.

for future reference:
these Tanabe Pro SOC and SOC 2 can use either 6/4 or 8/6 springs without being revalved at the factory. The SOC sold in japan come with 8/6. Americans get the weaksauce 6/4. Any of the combos will work also.
