Alright, so has anybody talked to or done business with turbocalculator lately? I've been trying to contact them for two weeks now to no avail. The turbo they sent me has shaftplay right out of the box.
I'm getting that sick feeling in my gut that I've been ripped off. If anybody has any info, please let me in on it. Otherwise, consider this a headsup to what may be an untrustworthy company.

Turbochargers with journal bearings (i.e. NOT ball bearing) are supposed to have a small degree of shaftplay. This clearance is required for an oil film to form around the shaft and suspend it during operation.
Exactly how much shaft play does your perticular one have? Do you have a dial gauge to measure it?

I have never dealt with turbocalc but i havent ever heard good things either. I would check out cheapturbos.com for your next one, assuming you have the cash to buy another turbo.
As for shaft play, a small amount of side to side or up and down play is OK (about a credit card width or less) but just about any in and out play is bad. Good luck and please update us with your situation.

It's radial, not axial, so I may be in the clear. I'm gonna let a buddy that knows more than I do about turbos have a look at it. My major erk here is the fact that I can't get in touch with anybody at turbocalculator.
Will update as soon as I find out anything.

they are almost impossible to get a hold of. i left a few messages with some questions and then tried emailing them, and they responded to that. i ended up getting a t3/t04 off them, and it ended up in really good shape. hope it works out for you.
