List your combos -
big brake setup or not.
I'm still on stock components but am going to change them again (fronts).
I have had brembo rotors and hp hawk pads but fuck they ate them rotors up like pac man. Too aggressive the hawk pads. I know that ebc greenstuff squeels just like the hawk pads when cold.
Things that i had in mind -
Asbestos stock oem pad replacements
Axxis metal brake pads

I cant remember the exact name of the components, but I got the cross-drilled rotors and KVR pads. They worked a little better than stock. But they never really had any bite to them. If you are looking for something auto-cross on I wouldn't get these pads.
BD - I know you said that those ate up the rotors quickly. Do you think that a different model will put less wear on the rotor, also did they have a good stopping power? Also, did you do any racing on them, if so, how did you like them.

i drifted on them and were for daily use. They do grip majorly hard but tore up the rotor. Killed the rotor in less time then in should have. I need something just mild performance that can stand the beating of high heat temps, basically beating them up but are durable for street driving. Sounds to far fetched but there has to be some combos out there. I just havent experimented with them yet.
I am thinking of going q45 brakes or z32TT but since i bought a whole lot of shit recently im still ponding my next move.

Huh, Hawk HPS are perfect for me. Those and brembo blanks. I have no squeeling issues, brembo blanks are only 29$ so replacing them is no big deal either.
Z32 brakes are unnecasary.

He had the HP not the HPS. I also got the HP thinking they would be better. But, they are horrid on the street. They take forever to heat up. When they do they grab hard. But not knowing when they will hook up is a bitch.

you prolly dont drive like i used to. Hawk pads are way to aggresive to be called a street pad. More like a auto x pad or track.

Yeah I read wrong, I thought you had HPS. The HPS ones are perfect IMO for street driving, I haven't noticed any quicker wear on rotors than others, and no squeeling either. I like the HPS better then the EBC's (green) and Axxis.

i have Axxis metal masters and brembo cross drilled/slotted front and rear. with 300zx front and stock size rear.
The brakes is one of the first things i did to my car like almost exactly 3 years ago. The pads still have a lot of meat on them and the rotors are fine. I switched my front rotors out last december cause i was a bit paranoid, the old rotors are still fine. I daily drive my car, putting about 15-20k miles a year on it, and i also drift/track it once or twice a month for the past two years. So yes, its holding up just fine. I'm amazed i haven't had to do anything to them besides bleeding the brakes once so often.
They feel great, enough braking force to lot up the tires when i want it to (and sometimes when i don't) and i feel no brake fade, ever.

im running on my car in the front
endless 6 pot big brake kit w/ endless cca (developmental ceramic carbon) pads and endless 2 piece slotted rotor in the front
and for the rear i am running a silkroad big brake kit relocation kit w/ slotted rotor and endless cca brake pad.

z32 calipers all around
front: hawk HPS pads
rear: generic pads
rear drum: project MU shoes
all around rotors: made in China rotors
pros: IT STOPS!
Fronts: Brembo cross drilled/slotted stock size with Axxis Ultimate pads
Rear: stock rotors with Axxis Metal Master pads
I'm on the 4th set of pads with these rotors in 32K miles, and the rotors are still perfect. They come in handy for the downhill runs in the mountains but still not enough for agressive braking for more than 2 minutes.

Brembo cross drilled+slotted with Hawk HP Plus in front with Project Mu B-Force in rear. ROCK SOLID BRAKING POWER but kills rotors.

I've got brembo blanks and axxis ultimate pads, they work fine on the street, they squeek somtimes but not a lot. But the combo worked great for my last auto cross.

Im waiting on my rotors to be drilled to four lug but I will soon be running J30 front calipers, J30 Power Slot Rotors, and Akebono ProACT Pads. In the rear I will be running stock calipers, Power Slot Rotors, and Project Mu B Force pads.
I will let you guys know how it performs as soon as I get my rotors back but I have high hopes. The J30 uses dual piston calipars in the front that are very similar to the Q45's front calipers and they share the same massive rotors.

Front: Q45 Calipers, Brembo blanks, Axxis Metal Masters
Rear: Stock S14
Everything works fine. Brake power probably not up to full potential because of shitty tires and no $$$. Car's been AutoX'd a few times.
Only complaint for possible problem is pad selection on the Q45 Caliper, outside of Metal masters and Nissan, who makes pads?
Retrospect: I haven't tracked the car yet (will though), so I probably should have stayed stock with more aggresive pads and used the $ on tires and wheels.
Good cheap upgrade as long as you aren't stupid like me and forget to buy calipers w/ brackets and end up paying double. Or install the calipers upside down.

Oh, and my past setup was brembo blanks and hawk hps pads all around. I like the bite that the hps pads have but they dust like crazy.
Z32 30mm aluminum calipers in front, Brembo solid rotors and Axxis Ultimate pads. Rears - Axxis Ultimate pads. Good street set up but the ultimates won't last on the track. After I burn up this set of pads I'm going Hawk HP Plus. I've ran these with the stock brakes before - Very good for track, lots of dust, squeals like a b!tch but grips damn good. :)
I think the ultimates are decent, they dust up more but good grip and decent wear for daily driving. KVR, Carbotech, Hawk HPS and the Porterfield R4-S come to mind. Although the ultimate is probably the most streetable one out of all of them and widely available. The metal master is junk and almost like stock performance.
You want grippier pads you will get more dust, noise and faster rotor wear, there's no way around it.

Jon, all the aftermarket places will make pads for your car. Just tell them what you need and you either send them a blank or they can make it for you. Try www.cobaltfriction.com I've ordered a lot of stuff from them and they will work with you on getting the right set up. They also produce their own custom brake compounds for car-specific applications.
also try carbotech i heard they make some really good pads

i was thinking axxis metal's on blank rotors but do they make them for stock s14 se's?
i would get cross drilled rotors on stock sizes but id rather go with a bigger setup. Good info though.

running stock rotors with hawk hp pads all around. works good, taken the car to the tracks a few times. dont have much power so these work fine.

Carbotech makes pads for Q45 and Maxima calipers.

Carbotech pads available for stock S14 rears?
Going to go with ceramic pads (forget the maker) and Z32 brembo blanks rotors upfront real soon.
Hawk HP+s lovem except for cold days but all you have to do is brake early to heat up the pads and then you are good to go. Ive also got them on the back totaly over kill they dont get hot enough. The track is a completely diffrent story 2 turns and you can run hard for 30+ minutes hell my car overheated before I got brake fade. The downside Im tired of the squelling from the brakes but I love these pads.

ok i used to run
hawk hp+ and porterfield r4's
also for rotors i had brembo blanks..
or slotted brembo's
and after every track event. my rotors would be either warped or have hairline fractures.
i never did ever get rid of that issue..
and with the hawks brake fade was evident after a few laps..

Front :z32 fronts and crappy semi-metallic pads
Rear : S14 stock rear nd crap pads
Stainless lines all around
Pads will change soon enough, something that might actually slow me down.

for you brembo slotted rotor guys (s13), did you purchase them to replace the oem rotor one, same size? and where did you guys get those brembo rotors at? i'm looking to upgrade my brakes so i can stop faster on the track with my s13(KA), i currently use stock rotor/caliper + the axis ultimate. The pads are nice for streets, but i really can't stop in time on the track. I was wondering what should i upgrade so i can stop faster? rotor? new caliper? brake line? brake fluids? I sat in my friends s2000 and with some brake kit, and it slows the car down dramatically compare to mine. Any suggestions? Thanks alot

Just wondering is pbr the same as axxis metal masters? I ordered some Ordered some axxis metal masters form heavythrottle but got pbr. On their site it says pbr/axxis pads, im assuming they are one in the other? are they the company that also makes the axxis metal masters? Are their semi-metalic pads the same?

front: 26mm z32 calipers with napa rotors and pbr semi-metallics
rear: stock calipers with noname rotors and same pads as front
pros: they work

PBR and Axxis are the same company, but one is from aust. and the the other is US. I have Ultimates and stock rotors. Definantly better than Metal Masters, which has all the cons, but none of the pros.
pros: greater stopping power than stock. Very Streetable, possibly drifting, not sure on auto-x.
cons: excessive brake dust. intermittent squeeking.
